    My system: Win98SE , IDE hd partitioned as C: D: E:
Acronis TRUE IMAGE Trial version : 8.0 build 800

I successfully created an image of E: (1 gig containing 200 meg of data)
onto a network drive. (a Linux box)
Using NORMAL compression, the image size was 188 meg. This is only about
    6% compression.

    1) is this compression level reasonable and normal ?

I'm able to CHECK and EXPLORE this image and going through the RESTORE
steps, it seems that I could RESTORE if I so desired.

When EXPLORING the image, there is an option to "DO NOT MOUNT".
However, if this is selected, then you can't EXPLORE.

    2) So,what is the point of "DO NOT MOUNT" ?

I successfully created a bootable rescue CD (Full version) and was able
to locate the image on the network drive after "TOOLS" , IP address, etc.
However, if I proceed to try to restore the image
after booting from the CD, I'm told that the image is "CORRUPTED".

    3) Why is the image deemed to be CORRUPT after booting from the rescue CD,
but not CORRUPT when EXPLORING from within Windows 98 ?

Try checking the image several times with the bootable CD - there is an unresolved problem where on some computers an image is SOMETIMES reported as corrupt when it isn't. Such images can be successful explored.
Sometimes the problem is due to RAM which is a little flaky - run a memory checker (e.g. memtest86) for a few hours.

Got same problem with XPSP2 but i can see that my partition-letters ARE ALL WRONG in rescue CD-mode except for C. Must mention that I can't use full version bootable rescue version, it's stops with please wait (for 1 hour! than i killed electricity and used safe version which worked)

But why isn't the newest build available as a trial? Trials make people buy your software. In latest builds little or BIG ERRORS can/must be solved. Now I'm SURE NOT GOING TO BUY IT and go to Norton after i de-installed True Image. My system is more PRESSIUSSSS to me than my money. It's got months of work into it!

And exactly how do you define the RIGHT partition-letter assignment?
