    WinXP Home/SP2
    Control Panel/System/Device Manager.
    Right after computer.
    first one. Lists a folder
    Acronis Devices
Click on the + and get
Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer.
with a small Icon green same as Network adapters.

Why would a software program appear in Device Manager?

    Hello frankb+c,

Thank you for your interest in Acronis True Image (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).

Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer is virtual device that allows you to mount images as virtual drives. It controls all the properties of mounted images and synchronizes them with operating system.

    Thank you.

I take that to mean... (Virtual Drive(s) )
After you have imaged a partition or HD onto another media (ext. HD) you can
in fact.. go to the Ext HD and activate any program by going to its Executable (.EXE)...

In essence.... if a program on your HD goes corrupt, or is deleted in error, you have a back-up, in the form of an "Image" on the Ext. HD.

    Now the question...
Does this hold true if the file is transfered to DVD from HD?

    Something else to try out....later.
