    1. Why is it that clicking "Immunize" of the Secure-section will first start a rootkit-scan before (probably...) carrying out immunization? Troubles me that I don't get any information on what's immunized and so on - or gives me a way to get that detailed information.

    2. Will TotalProtect start a scan no matter what activity is going on on my system? Again I like Norton's approach where it'll check if you're moving your mouse, typing on the keyboard, is running a full-screen application, or the screen-saver is on before doing any tasks. The default idle-timeout (is that correct? not running now, so don't remember what it's called...) in Norton is 10 min.

    3. Viewing Quarantine, then clicking the Back-text, I don't want to get back to the main-screen, I obviously want to get back to where I was before; the Secure-section.

Just got a little confused... why am I supposed to delete a value named Enabled if present? Isn't that what makes it enabled? Is it dependent on some service?

    Thanks for your assistance.

I can see why that could be confusing. The entries aren't there by default and Enabled has a value (REG_DWORD) of 0 or 1 in the right pane. 0 is disable.

So basically, what you mean is: I create such a rule, set it to "1", then delete it once I'm done, or should I reboot before?

I would determine what has disabled your wsh and check if you have those reg keys. If you need to enable in the future you can follow the reverse of Disabling Windows Script Host and delete the "Enabled" value, then reboot. Btw I've seen some utilities that switch wsh on/off one being xp-AntiSpy.
I run scripts all the time so do not have wsh disabled - but being disabled isn't a bad thing as it can stop a lot of trouble with malware. What I was answering was why you were getting that 'error' message.

    1. Scan froze last time I used it. I recall it was at 4000 items or so when it happened. If you want me to look into it further (see if it happens again and when), just ask.

    2. When I started the software today, it would suddenly start a full security checkup. I'm pretty sure I did not click it to do this - please see if it happens for you.

    3. I can seriously not see where to activate my license - that's not a good sign...

    4. Help-file > Activating your copy (under Licensing) > Typo with "Insure you are connected to the internet before continuing."

    1. Although i said before, that Totalprotect can work in parralel to other AVS, another AV on your computer COULD have interupted the scanning process. Also how much RAM do you have?

    2. Do you mean an automatic, quick malware scan? TotalProtect by default scans your computer every day (quick malware scan) for any threats.

    3. You must uninstall the demo product, download the installer and select I want to use my license (in licensing options, first screen). Activation is done the first time you start the licensed product

    4. Woops! Sorry! (we are human!)

TotalProtect is being charged at a low cost because it is an antivirus program designed for people who have medium needs for an antivirus, and not one that excessive on control and bigger features. Additionaly, it has not been out on the market long so the starting price for retail is $6USD

The people behind element software, i cannot give out too much info, but myself, I am 19, have a international diploma in computing, a national certificate in security of computers and computing driving license, and I am a Specialist in the Microsoft Office systems, and am working on my degree. Few others have the same kind of qualifications too, so we know what we are talking about here.

For the pure sake of privacy, the about us page describes the house itself, not those who work there.

    1. I've 2GBs - I always keep my system up-to-date to handle what I want to run. ;) No other AV was present at the time - it would just freeze from what seemed to be without reason...

    2. Dunno about that... it popped up about that type of scan long before that happened... who knows, maybe I accidentaly made another click or something when clicking away the prompt to get a license for full functionality.

    3. That doesn't seem like the best solution really... do you plan to make it better in future builds or releases? The user might also get confused by this.

    4. Don't worry, I always see the very small details in software and am able to test things (software) long in a row. ;)

Also, don't forget to check out the first page - there are lots of things left to go through. :D

EDIT: I forgot the one at the top of this page too. :p

    1. It was a bug in our software, which has now been fixed. However this combi update will not download automatically from ETP as it updates core components so you will need to update manually from http://www.elementsoftware.co.uk/totalprotect/updates/ETP2009190709UPDATE.exe or visit softpedia for the download.

    2. The manual update we recently pushed out reduces the limits on the software, so you have a much more powerful defragging tool and optimization process. However if you want the full functionality and much better optimization of your computer, please feel free to purchase the software (its dirt cheap right now)

    3. Later this year we are going to improve the delivery of the software and its installation method. We are also going to talk to some OEMS in the UK about a possible licensing deal. We very much doubt that Norton will like this so its going to be tough competion for this little company. But we are getting there thanks to many users support!

    4. Same. I constantly test for bugs in software, and its always easy to miss one out.

    5. Oh yeah we recently launched the IP Pig site (www.ippig.co.cc) which offers free port scanning tools if you are interested.

    6. One more thing, with this large update for ETP 2009 that we published, we heavily changed the AV and rootkit detection mechansisms so that the detection rates and scanning performance have been increased.

Make sure you check www.elementsoftware.co.uk/totalprotect for all updates. Also the TotalProtect site will be under mantainence later this year because we are going to introduce a community for ETP users who can submit virus reports etc (bit like SpyNet from Microsoft, but more open).

    Thanks!

    Follow these steps:

    1. UNINSTALL Element TotalProtect
2.Re-download the Element TotalProtect installer from our website if it is no longer on your computer
3.On the first screen of the installer there will be two options, Licensed or limited version.
    4.Select License.
    5.Agree to the EULA
6.Enter your name, company (if any) and license into the forms provided. Click Next once it registers your key.
    7.Follow the onscreen instructions.
8.Start Element TotalProtect from the desktop or start menu.
    9. You should see a Activation window appear. Click Next and the program will activate with us
    10. You should be now using the licensed product.

Yes, that's what I mean - COMPLICATED! :ouch: You should really have considered a much more convenient approach already from start. :doubt:

We apoligize for that issue, but it was one of the most secure ways of avoiding licensing issues from ahem naughty people ;)

Like i said before, the distrubution of the software will be improved later in the coming months. :)

... and make sure you post it on these forums by then as well as it becomes available - this would probably be the best place to get experienced and more beta testers. ;)

We have already spoke to Microsoft today directly on this matter. Its due to the fact that the software is compressed to reduce download time and protect the software components. However the arithlogram that compresses the software is very similar of that to a virus, but Microsoft have already said that they have been notified of a similar issue and that they are going to rectify the problem.

Dont forget users, that MSE is beta and unfinished software, so expect bugs like these. Software developers like us will be incredibly annoyed if it ships with the same issue- it affects our potential clients otherwise.

Just a small update- We have updated the ETP install mechanism, so you now only have to download a 800KB installer and it will do a very fast dowload for you, the download size has been reduced to 31MB now so its much quicker to get Element TotalProtect set up on your computer.

Also that we have updated the ETP update software so updates are more efficently distrubuted to you.

    Thanks all
