In the United States of Louisiana and Texas, we -- uhh -- we can almost afford F-Prot with Spybot's free active TeaTimer protection enabled!

1.,2. & 3. agree because you find them in most of computer shops and preinstalled on PC and laptops
    4. AntiVir/Avast (free)
    5. Kaspersky/NOD32/Panda

But now in the biggest shops I see other than Symantec and McAfee also Kaspersky and GData AVK.

NOD32 needs to be much promoted. I've told all my friends about it and almost 99% of them liked it much than Bit Defender, Norton, etc.... advertising in mass-media or to sport competitions, or I don't know :D may increase its popularity. ;) Also Kaspersky...he's not so well promoted either

For the Home market, Norton then McAfee. KAV too must have a notable presence as it was the AV installed on many Time Computers before they went bust! After these, probably the free AVG/Avast.

Only Norton and McAfee are available in the main PC outlets and these two are generally the only AV's that the average user can name. Although NOD has a large advertisement spread in a number of PC/Game magazines here over the last year or so.

Sophos has a big base of customers within the 100 largest companies listed on the London Stock Exchange.

    True here in Canada also.

Not one person i've talked to on this subject has ever heard of NOD or KAV. That includes computer shop employees, IT people, no one....

Same here in the city where I live in California. I've been to three local computer repair shops, and none have heard of NOD or KAV. When I mention KAV or especially NOD, at staples, the sales people just give me a blank stare.

Conversation with me and my friends at home and at work about using NOD32 or KAV and how much popular Norton and McAfee are in the US of A

Me: Have you tried NOD32 or KAV?
Friends: What? N-O- who? Whats a KAV?
Me: anti-virus programs and its NOD32 and KAV.
friends: oooooh, I got what ever came with my computer, some Norton thing or McA-something, that McA- thing seems pretty good though, have you tried that?
    Me: No
Friends: Well I never heard of that N-O-whatever or that Kasper...uh, KA thing you're talking about.
Me: Well, would you be interested in trying them, you can try either one for free for 30 days
Friends: No, if I never heard of it I'm not using it.

These are the type of reponses I get any time we start talking about computers.
Dont get me wrong, some do know about NOD32 and Kaspersky but the "majority" don't know.

I doubt that Norton is in the first place izi. People simply don't like it.
BitDefender was pretty popular even before SiOL offered it.
avast! share was greatly increased by me. Kaspersky is also pretty popular because of brute detection (it's basically known just because of this in Slovenia). NOD32 is mostly popular because it's fast, light and with good heuristics. Norman? Well i've seen two copies in 4 years so no, not popular at all.
I'm talking about personal computers, not corporate/education systems.

People trust Norton, I realy don't know why. :D
Norman: look at this file http://www.mss.gov.si/fileadmin/mss.gov.si/pageuploads/okroznice/Norman.doc, page 2 (OPIS LICENCE IN POGOJI ZA UPORABO). I'm talking about all users (for personal, corporate and goverment).

Yeah i know they ordered Norman, but it's pretty much crap.
I'd understand BitDefender or F-Secure, but Norman... :doubt:

They trust only because when they enter a computer shop they see that big yellow wall (and a red wall) and ofcourse the shopkeeper advise them to buy these products.

...and if U buy new computer (HP...) there is Norton pre-installed for 6 months. Norton has the best market.

I have been living in Seoul South Korea for 3 years, and this country is number one in the world in terms of DSL connections (as a matter of fact it's not possible in Seoul to have a dial-up- connection!).

As far as AVs, the most popular is definetly AhnLab V3 (Korean product) followed by Symantec NAV (quite predictable, as it comes pre-installed in most new machines), and Hauri ViRobot (korean product). I guess Trend Micro and McAfee are also quite popular.

Needless to say that NOD32 and Karspersky are absolutely unheard of in this country.
