Well, hope3 this hasn't been posted before but I'm quite interested which is the top 5 AVs used in your country. Of course you should do a strong research to find exactly the real rankings, but as long as you know, from your countrys forum polls and from your friends', relatives' AVs please post here which AVs are the most used in your country.
    Thx!

In Romania (to begin the postings... :D ) these are the most used AVs:
    1. Bit Defender
    2. NOD32
    3. Norton Antivirus
    4. F-Secure
    5. AVG

    1. NOD32
    2. avast!
    3. Kaspersky
    4. Bit Defender
    5. AntiVir

These are my observations, though some are very equal to others.
First 4 are basically sharing the sampe place, while AntiVir, AVG, Norton, McAfee are pushed back. Basically i don't know much ppl that actually use McAfee for example.

in Romania there are few using Kaspersky. :( And most users having a free AV are using AVG or Avast. Don't know why aren't they using AntiVir which is much better. o_O
Bit Defender is the first because it's a Romanian product. :D

    In Canada

    Norton
    McAfee

For the average user as thats basically all you'll find on store shelves. Although I think Canada is only behind the Netherlands for being the most connected country ... and I'm sure there are an aboundance of more savy users. Of my friends Nod and Kav would rate 1 and 2 respectively. ;)

In the US, as far as OEM computers go: I've yet to see anything other than Norton, McAfee or Trend come in the shop unfortunately. Most of them leave with a Nod32 trial and instructions on how to purchase it though. :)

    1 Trend Micro
    2 Symantec
    3 McAfee
    Virus security (K7Computing-based)
avast!, AVG, VirusKiller (rebadged Rising), V3, Kingsoft, etc.

Unknown/unproven products can be popular if they are cheap.

It's about total market sales included business side also. Home computing has a different story.

Here in the U.S. of A, the average typical computer user that I've met doesn't even know if they have antivirus, antitrojan, antimalware, or firewall... some know they have "Norton"... a few others McAfee... but they usually have little or no idea of what those programs consist of or what they are supposed to do other than "protect them"... and many of these people never bothered to subscribe to updates beyond the free 90 day trial that came installed on their computer. Such is life.

My guess for Thailand and some countries in Southeast Asia...

    1. Norton (government/corporate/home users)
    2. McAfee (government/corporate/home users)
    3. Trend Micro and CA eTrust (government/corporate users)
    4. AVG
    5. avast!

and the new comer, Fortinet for the government/corporate users.

In my opinion, Norton, McAfee, Tend Micro, these big three rule the market because of their acceptable quality, good reputation and good marketing strategy, these 3 brands are so strong and can make the government/corporate users feel trust even they have to pay more.

I think Grisoft AVG must doing something right in the real world, this AV is very popular and seems to getting even more popular, not just because of it has a free version for home users.
