Yes, I've never seen a company try so hard to alienate its customer base.

I think I may like Windows 9. Maybe that pattern set by Windows ME will hold true.

Windows 7's support will be more likely extended, like they did with XP. Unless they have learnt from "mistake" and killed 7 as they have planned.

Now about Windows 9, I think I'll pass this one. Maybe I'll just jump to 10. So far it looks boring, unless they will provide 128-bit Windows 9. (aaaarghaaghaagh!)

It still looks like it was styled by a five year old using construction paper and who had no aesthetic taste whatsoever.

I agree that it's a step backward for the desktop. Aero Glass is much nicer and no problem for desktop graphics adapters. I believe the flat, opaque look of "8" was meant to reduce battery use on mobile devices. I expect there will be ways to bring Aero Glass to "9", such as Windowblinds.

I think Aero in Vista and Win 7 was really nice. 8 and higher look terrible to me. Plain, bland and ugly really... It's pretty clear they didn't have the desktop/laptop user in mind in Win 8 and 9.

No, Aero is crappy and it gives problems to some games, particularly older games in the age of XP and below. Linux distros have much prettier UIs anyway. We need something more functional like XP's UI actually.

    Kerodo,

We must be using different OS. My Win8 looks almost identical to Win7 but is more stable.

To me Win 8 just looked "flat", and Win 7 with Aero looked polished and nice. But yeah, they aren't all THAT much different. :)

I'm on linux now anyway, have been for some time.

Kerodo, I have Ubuntu and Mint on my SSD too. I installed Ubuntu a few years ago to make customized IFL boot disks. But Ubuntu isn't needed for that anymore. I'm not much good on Linux. I wish someone would sit down next to me and pass on the basics. It's hard to learn over the net.

It does take time. I'm not too well versed in all the security and technical details, but I have been using linux off an on for almost 10 years now. It's mostly a learn by doing thing. Install one, search for answers, learn, and so on. I like linux now, even more than Win 7, but it did take years to get there.

When Win 9 Preview hits the streets, I will have a look at that also. I won't be able to resist.. :)

    Same here.

I bought Win8 for $40. I hope there will be similar deals on Win9.

I'd be happy to use Linux as my main OS if only I knew how to work it much better than I can at present.

Yes, I guessed it wasn't intended for desktop users. That's because Mickeysoft believe that the desktop market is finished. I think that reports of its demise are exaggerated personally.

I prefer Android for mobile devices anyhow. MS should have concentrated on its existing customers and developed separate OS's for mobile and desktop environments.

Like I said, my next laptop will be a Mac.

New notification center looks interesting. Multiple desktops might be useful also.

The notification center is nice on the phone, but I doubt I will have much use for it on a PC. Multiple desktop will be nice. I've been waiting 20 years for them to do that.
