    So im sitting there at my fave forum wilders when i hit my zap to check for updates and what do i notice.

    the free update feature disabled.

    and im wondering why when i register and got zap on 4-3-2002 looky

    When you click "check for updates" there's an option at the ZA page to check when your license expires. Have you tried that?

    Would be the best place to go for support. If your version of ZAP 2 was bought as a box set. You can also look in the software itself to see when your license expires. If you did purchase your software on 04/03/2002. Your key should in fact still be valid for a year from that date. If after contacting support at the above address. Your problem doesn't get resolved. Please re post so that a member of Team Z can forward your problem to ZoneLabs Support.     updates have expired.

    This issue normally happens upon upgrading your Zone Alarm program and can
    be corrected by the following:

    Delete the ereg.ini file from the Zone Labs directory:
    1. Click on 'Start',
    2. Click on 'Find'(or Search), Files or Folders',
    3. Type 'ereg.ini' into the named field,
    4. Make sure that the 'Look In' field displays your c:\ drive only,
    5. Click 'Find Now'(or Search),
    Note: You may have several ereg.ini or Ereg.ini files found.
    6. Look for the file that is located in the 'Zone Labs'(or Zone Alarm)
    directory and hightlight it by clicking on it.
    7. Select the 'Delete' key on your keyboard.

    Once this ereg.ini file has been deleted successfully, you will be able to
    register for the 12 months free updates.

    Registering for a license key:
    1) Close all programs and return to the desktop.

    2) Right-click the ZoneAlarm Pro icon in the task bar and select Shutdown
    Zone Alarm Pro from the menu that appears.

    3) Click Yes.

    4) Click Start, select Programs, select Zone Labs and click Register for
    12 Months of FREE UPDATES! to open the Registration for ZoneAlarm Pro
    window.

    5) Follow the on-screen prompts and enter the correct information in the
    required fields to successfully register the program.

    NOTE: The license key will be sent to you via e-mail. Verify that your
    e-mail address is entered correctly (i.e., spelling, underscores, dashes,
    etc.) in the E-mail Address: field.

    A response has been promised. Please make no mistake about Zone Labs - their responsiveness has been exemplary recently. It takes a heads-up occasionally, but that's understandable.

    Hi MRBLAZE! I've got just a wee little thing to say and then I'll be on my way. BRODERBUND USES SPYWARE! It was installed on my PC by the manufacturer HP. I removed all of it after I got Adaware! I wouldn't touch them with a ten meter cattle-prod, if you get my meaning! Best of Luck in the future! :)

    We have a response from Zone Labs:

    This is a new known issue that we have trouble reproducing, but we know it exists.

    We're working on text instructions for the uninstall and reinstall fix.


    I'm sending you an IM with an email address so you can be directly in touch with a ZL person.

    Re the spam:

    The user should contact Broderbund support again to let them know about the unwanted emails. They should be able to remove his email manually.

    wow you guys are awsome i love wilders i dont know if za will resolve the problem but im sure happy i got my wilder family here looking out for me=)

    thank you for all your suport you guys here kick a.ss=)

    is it just me but wilders seems to be the hang out for alot of the big names including software makers like pepi and brett.

    wow i wonder wha6t other fameous people hang here i know galvin drops by every so oten aint he the tds man then wow so many cool people here to many to name=)

    1. Open the ZoneAlarm Pro program, go to the OVERVIEW >> PREFERENCES tab,
    and make sure the "Load ZoneAlarm Pro At Startup" box is UNchecked.

    2. REBOOT.

    3. You should now have no ZoneAlarm Pro processes running on your system.

    4. Now run Start, Programs, Zone Labs, and Uninstall. Click "Yes" at the
    prompt for the security check from the Zone Labs security engine (You MUST
    allow this service to shut down in order to remove files).

    WARNING - Do NOT run the ZoneAlarm Uninstall program while in Safe Mode. The
    program may not be able to make the proper registry changes in Safe Mode,
    thus generating errors after a reboot.

    5. REBOOT.

    6. To make sure that you can see ALL the ZoneAlarm Pro system files, if they
    are still on your computer:

    a. Right-click on My Computer, then left-click on Explore. When the Windows
    Explorer panel appears:
    - In Windows 95,98,and NT: Click View>Options (in Windows 98, this will be
    called "Folder Options"). Click the "View" tab, then click the "Show all
    files" radio button.
    - In Windows ME, 2000, and XP: Click Tools>Folder Options. Click the "View"
    tab, then click the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button.
    b. Click OK.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: Making modifications to system files may disable crucial
    functions of your Windows operating system. We strongly suggest re-enabling
    the "Hide files and folders" feature once all ZoneAlarm Pro files have been
    removed.

    7. Click on Start, then Search or Find, and select Files. Make sure that the
    location box is set to search your local hard drive (usually C:) or All
    Local Drives.

    Type the following exactly - including any spaces. Delete any FOLDERS found:


    zonelabs
    “zone labs”
    “Internet logs”

    Note: Your alerts log -- ZALogs.txt will be stored in the Internet Logs
    Folder. If for any reason you wish to save your alerts log, simply copy this
    file to another safe location on your hard drive.

    Type the following exactly - delete any of the following files found in
    C:\Windows, C:\WINNT, or any subfolder below those, or in any \Temp folders
    ONLY:

    vsdata.dll
    vsdata95.vxd
    vsdatant.vxd
    vsmonapi.dll
    vsnetutils.dll
    vspubapi.dll
    vsutil.dll (NOTE: Do NOT remove this file from any McAfee folders)
    zllictbl.dat
    zlparser.dll

    Type the following exactly - delete any files found in any folder with
    "Programs" in the pathname):

    zapro
    zonealarm
    “zonealarm pro”

    8. Make sure your Recycle Bin is empty (right-click and select Empty).

    9. REBOOT

    Now you should be able to install the latest version. Double-click on the
    file you downloaded. The installation program will guide you through the
    setup process. (Note that all registration fields require at least 1
    character, even if only a space for company, and "@" for email address). Be
    sure NOT TO choose "Upgrade", as this can cause further difficulties if the
    database is corrupt.

    NOTE: If you received an error message upon deleting the files, or if the
    original programs remain in the Programs list, or if the problem persists
    after this, removing the files in Safe Mode will allow you to delete the
    files properly. If you need further help with this, please reply to this
    email keeping all text intact as we do not archive previous emails.


    i need to get check out lol or spy one to do a verbal assault lol they get them to do it right and do somethimg lol check out and spy 1 are surely the best in frindly out spoken opnioneated and scary big bad mo fos on this bord and i mean that with the greatest admiration in a good way lol=)

    so dont take it the wrong way its just they make good intimidation muscle kinda like a high tech verstion of the sopranoes with security software in mind.

    I don't understand your problem with the email reply from Zone Labs You were asked to remove all traces of the program from your computer, and detailed instructions were provided.

    I too have been asked to remove ZA from my system to try and solve a problem. I did so willing and reported back to Zone Labs.

    Please follow the instructions and report back to the contact at Zone Labs.

    In no way were the instructions meant to threaten you.

    Sorry to hear of your ZAP problems.

    Yes, I'm afraid that uninstalling ZA(P) is not always that easy, and that indeed the description, which Marcus send to you, is the right way to uninstall ZAP.
    Make sure that you have it printed out before you're going to follow his instructions.

    BTW: Marcus is a nice guy who very often posts in his own time at the GRC.security.software forum.

    oh sorry i wasnt complet in my answer to za i have wrote them e-mails so i see how it would look one sided but this is what i wrote them after i got the e-mail albolve sorry for the confustion,=(

    look i already did that 3 times i even made sure to use reg cleaner and clean sweep short of wiping my hard drive none of that works im extremly frustrated to give you an ideal of the gravity of this issue go here i been posting all my problems in this one message bord

    Its the F5 key...........as your computer is booting hold down CTRL and ALT..plus F5..........on some win ME's..(mine is one) its necessary to keep tapping the F5 key while holding down the other keys mentioned. (I was onced flamed for saying this...yet those instructions came directly from compaq support while on the line with me during this process)

    Please check the facts before posting. Your trying to make it sound as if the ZoneAlarm box sets have spyware. Which they don't. Yes Broderbund has include spyware in packages before. But not any ZoneLabs packages. This was covered in a press release on there site. Since there remodel of there site. I now can't find this article. But will in fact ask support for a direct link.
