Quick question again and sorry to be a pain. I did enable boot time protection but just have it set to normal. Everything else are default settings. My question is I did not install the Norton toolbar/addon for Chrome just because I loathe those things in general and usually slow down browsing. Am I missing out on a major part of the protection of the suite by not installing it? Thanks.
afaik, you're missing out on the "site ratings" stuff and phishing protection. I'm not 100% sure it still blocks malicious sites without the toolbar, but the web filtering components still work, and will block exploits and malicious payloads on websites.
Welcome to the Norton Security 22.7 Public Beta! Known Issues for build 22.7.0.27 https://community.norton.com/en/forums/Norton_Security_Public_Beta
From Norton Beta page: "After you complete registration, you will be emailed a 14-day Beta Subscription Activation Key to assist you in testing" https://community.norton.com/en/forums/welcome-norton-security-227-public-beta No, thanks, to a 14-days key, for doing their dirtywork.
You get a 14 day key which can be renewed for a further 14 days. After that you have to sign up again to get a new key, which can also be renewed once, and so on. With the last betas if you post your findings on their forum they send out free 12 month subscriptions when the new version is released, but I can not promise that will happen this time.
In my opinion big companies, like Symantec, should pay for beta-testing. At least give a free one year licences, for doing their dirty work. They can afford. @Krusty13 : You edited your post, but are not sure, that they do... Anyway, I've done with Norton, because they force to register, and sell only Norton-Security, instead of AntiVirus, in Germany @€35.-
I only edited my post by changing the "w" to "W". They have sent me free licenses the last two betas I've tried but I'm not trying to convince you, just making you aware of the facts.
@Krusty13 Could you post some screenshots of the sandboxing-feature? 'Sandboxing, or isolating potential threats Cybercriminals attempt to trick security solutions by “packing-up” malware (often-times within legitimate software files) to prevent it from being identified. Norton is extremely proud to announce a new high-performance emulator that uses these cybercriminals' tricks against them. Norton Security will run and analyze unknown and suspicious files in an isolated protected virtual environment to see how they act before allowing the file to be run on the user's device. This helps to ensure the file is safe before it takes up residence and wreaks havoc on a user's device.' Source: https://manage.norton.com/beta
Hi @deugniet , I'm not testing this beta, at least for the time being anyway, but I have asked for more information about that feature. Great find! Thanks, Dave
This is a complete joke. I signed up for the beta with an email address that I have previously used for beta testing with the. I click the agree and download button. Nothing happens, but I get an email. The email says I should have already downloaded, but if not follow the directions below, of which there aren't any... If their beta product is a good as their process to sign up for it, I'll probably skip it. --Ok, I tried IE instead of Firefox and I got a download. Still, the email should have had an actual link.
Good to know! I am thinking of trying it but its a beta and I don't have a spare test machine at the moment.
I am trying to try out this new beta but can't remember password, so clicked on the can't remember password link and never got a e-mail back to reset it. If I can not get past the login screen and am stuck with the trial, I will have to uninstall it. This is to activate it. I did get the code via e-mail.
Are you using the right email address? The beta uses a separate Norton account to the released products.
I did get it downloaded and running in a virtual machine. I found it a little rough so I am not going to spend too much time with it until the next update.
Well I was one of the first here to test Nortons betas and I used the same e-mail and so I don't know why they are thinking it is a different addy. Otherwise how did I get their invite to test this beta. I got it from my e-mail not this forum thread. I also just got Eset's invite via same e-mail for the new beta reported here. Maybe I will just give that one a try and not fuss with the Norton e-mail issue.
