Yep, agreed on all that. To blindly trust it would be foolhardy, IMO. I have yet to use ANY cloud service and don't plan to either. It is something I just don't need.

Yeah, I don't think I'd want to use this one for my online banking....

Why in the world does it want your email address?

Well, apparently, it was nothing to do with the international communist conspiracy, ~ Removed Off Topic Remarks ~, but eventually transpired to be merely for setting up a 'cloud' account. ;)

It is all just re-marketing I think. The Maxthon guys are just trying to sell Maxthon 4 as something special in the cloud market. Which was why when I first upgraded to #4 it kept trying to convince me to join its 'cloud'. I'm not that interested in the cloud function but it's there if I want it I suppose.

I'm impressed with its speed as much as its functionality. It really does have a lot 'out of the box'. The only two add-ons I have are Maxthon Flag (Flagfox) & Flash Block, & these are more for security than anything else. IMO there are no other browsers that I would use vanilla out of the box. Even the adblocker is included.

I've never seen such an excessive user interface, I just don't like it. :doubt:

I wouldn't exactly call it necessarily 'excessive'. A bit two dimensional maybe. It can be customised a bit, plus the side bar can always be hidden.

Yeah, I don't much like the UI either. I installed it and then promptly removed it. Yech.... :p

Either way, Maxthon definitely needs some new skins.

100% agreed. It must be awful hard to get them working though when even the Devs state they don't know when skins will be back :D

There are several client-side ways to know what happens to "your data" - network tools, etc.

After it is transmitted to another server (and during the transmission), things get harder.

The real concerns should be about the encryption and how it happens.

However, the cloud features of Maxthon are entirely optional.

Thought I'd have a try of this (in Sandboxie first)

I have quite a few bookmarks in Opera and when I opened Maxthon 4 for first time all my bookmarks were on the favourites bar. So I deleted each one (took ages!) until I had just the ones I use on a daily basis. When I then looked under favourites all the list was gone apart from the ones I'd kept :D

So how do you clear that bar and just have the ones you want on?

I tend to have most of my bookmarks in folders. I can't remember now if Mx imported my bookmarks from Firefox or IE. I think it was Firefox. In which case it probably only includes the bookmarks on Firefox's toolbar for its own toolbar. I tend to use the speed dial more than the bookmarks toolbar, which I usually hide (Ctrl + B). It could be a matter of just clearing the ones off it you don't use regularly & keeping them in folders. If you hold down Ctrl & B at the same time, the bar disappears & a star icon (Opera style) appears in the GUI for bookmarks. Bookmarking is very much like it is in Safari, which isn't surprising really. Ctrl + Shift + B should give you the bookmarks manager.

Why is the IE proxy enabled by default? Is there any reason to use it? :)

Possibly because back in the day most people who tried Maxthon were coming from IE.

    Not really.

I see, the only thing I'm missing is a flashblock feature.

It is called Flash Block (by Positronis) & can be found in the Extensions Centre.

LOL! It's a pretty good flash blocker, it can easily be disabled in the extension manager if needed. Ctrl + U will also switch it on/off. Honestly, Mx has virtually everything I had on Opera, including being able to double click tabs to close them. If I'm not careful I'll end up an Mx fanboi. I'm glad they've brought back aeroglass as well. I can even put a custom picture on the speed dial page like I used to on Opera.
