I've been using V3 for a while. In my computers, backing up using Standard Compression is almost twice as fast as Version 2. For my OS partition, Standard Compression is about a third faster than Enhanced Speed - A compression. I now use Standard compression as the default. For data partitions (non compressible files), Enhanced Speed - A compression is faster.

My V3 restores are about 10% faster than V2 restores.

With a UEFI BitLocker OS partition there have been major improvements in backup and restore of the encrypted partition.

After making an IFL UFD you can copy your ifl.ini and bootitbm.ini to the UFD root and they will be used. But you don't have to do this as these files are inbuilt. Just if you want to make changes after the build.

Thanks Brian for sharing your experience. It agrees with my testing quite well when I used enhanced size options when compared to V2. Anyway it's totally worth upgrading to v3.
One question: when you backup BitLocker encrypted OS partition, I assume the image size would be the same as the raw OS partition, without any compression?

    oliverjia,

Sorry, but I can't recall. I'll do it again later today and let you know.

I looked up my notes on BitLocker and V3. You couldn't do this easily with V2.

Let's say you have a Win10 UEFI system with the OS partition BitLocked.
Create an Entire Drive image using VSS, not PhyLock.

You can also create an Entire Drive image in TBWinRE but
    unlock Win10 partition
create the image using the Read from Volume option

Or you can do OS partition images instead of Entire drive images

Let's say you get OS issues
    Boot TBWinRE
    unlock Win10 partition
restore Win10 image (partition from Entire)
    boot Win10
    BitLocker will be ON

Let's say you have a HD failure. Replace the HD
    Boot TBWinRE
    restore Win10 Entire Drive image
    boot Win10
BitLocker will be OFF. You will have to encrypt

The new name is not particularly creative. "Drive Image" has been part of the name of many products, both past and present.

The main interface isn´t very original either. And a link to the module to create boot media should be on it.

    oliverjia,

I just encrypted a Win10 partition (UEFI), rebooted using the password and did a V3 IFW VSS Entire Drive image.

The image was the same size as my usual images. Interesting.

For comparison I did a PHYLock image and it was over twice the size of the VSS. I assume RAW.

It is Standard compression that is much faster than V2 Standard. Are you using Enhanced Speed - A compression?

Thanks Brian. I normally only backup the unencrypted OS drive, and re-encrypt the drive every time after I restore the OS image. Fortunately I only do restore very rarely nowadays. But it appears I can unlock the OS drive under WinRE, then restore the OS image, and after which the OS should be still encrypted. Sounds great.

Correct. But only when using TBWinRE. You can't get the same result with IFL.

Purchased Drive Image Backup. Went to install it, and Windows 10 (with Anniversary update says "Unknown Publisher". The installation file is Image.exe as far as I can see. The details on that file do NOT list a publisher. Does anyone know if this is safe to install. I purchased the GUI version for Winfows. Also when I go to register for the forum, I says I didn't answer the Vouchsafe Challenge correctly. Problem is, I don't see any challenge. Just reset and submit and a blank space.

    TheBear,

I gather some people with Win10 AU are having driver signing issues. Go ahead and install it. Let us know if it works.

I originally downloaded this from their website. I entered my info then my new order number for version 3. I selected the english gui version and downloaded.
It appears I mistakenly downloaded the DOS version.

I then followed the link in my registration email, and got a far larger file. I am sure this one will work. Thanks for the help. Will let you know.

I also see no speed improvement gains. But thats okay as long as reliablity is 100%

    Pete,

Are you using Enhanced Speed - A compression? If you get a chance, try Standard compression. It might be faster but no promises. In my computers it completes the backup in 60% of the time taken by an Enhanced Speed - A compression backup.

Resolved it. If I uninstall Version 2.99 of IFW, will I be able to restore backups I did with it after I install Drive Image Backup 3.0?

Uninstall 2.99. Install 3.00a. When you run IFW you will be asked for your name and key info. (if you haven't already entered this info)

Then I guess you'll need to use the exact same info as appeared in your order confirmation email.
