Hi Hay, you could have, since mid 90's! :D
I walk with TDS since 1999 so not quite from the beginning, but long enough to have lots of fun with it quite some time!
~~You did grab the speech and scripting parts from the TDS download site, did you? for extra enhancement, and somewhere in this forum the very nice graphic bars and wallpapers Tassie, Bowserman and a few others contributed?~~

Jooske, There are two programs I have that will
remain un-spoken but yes sometimes things fall
    between the cracks!!!
Where would a regular 'joe' like myself find these little add-ons
    that you referr to??
I looked but I am lost...please show me the way

Ah! i'm on a newsgroup "crystal unicorns" so your magical beautiful image fits nicely again :)
    http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=download
If you look in "other downloads"

The scripts pack you can just unzip and it will be in TDS-3\Scripts

For the Speechpack you'll be send to the www.microsoft.com/msagent pages (i guess) for additional downloads, in case you're not all msagent ready yet. XP home is, but you might not have installed the various TTS engines (text-to-speech) there are greek engines too if i remember well, so you might be able to have an msagent or TDS itself saying friendlyu things in Greek to you, not sure, but worth the try and else we have other ways for that :)

You'll need the SAPI4 runtimes which is the speech engine for the msagents and which TDS uses too. Close tothat download is the speech control panel download too.
SAPI4 is another technology then SAPI5 which ships with XP, so you need it for this part if you want hear TDS sing Cockeridocericooooooo to wake you up and recommend in case of problems not to eat your keyboard etc.
From that msagent download page you don't need to take the first msagent.exe as XP has a more advanced version in it's install CD-rom.
Maybe you find on that cd-rom also the msagent characters like Genie, Peedy, Merlin, Robbie. --- i use Genie a lot in the TDS scripts.
Grab the agents characters, the TTS-engines of languages you like and the voice recognition engine if you want to talk with your system and tell agents what you want them to do, for instance.

Now the SAPI4 and SAPI5 part:
They can coexist on one system but not run at the same time, so via the control panel and speechcontrol you close temporary SAPI5 and open SAPI4
If all went well and you type something in the bottom of TDS console like
    speak "Hello hayc!"
    TDS should repeat that.

If all that works, grab from top of this forum (or via the "Important sticky postings") my test/demo files to play with a bit more.
Now you understand immediately if TDS would not speak Greek very convincing, you could create some wav files with your TTS engine and have an msagent popup and your wav file playing. You'll see it's lips moving with that! This part isso cute!
