Can anyone tell me if TDS will slow down my machine,I have read in a review that it does impact on windows . My system is AMD 1200Mhz Windows ME 512MB DDR ram and my resident programs are Zone AlarnPro, TrojanHunter, Norton Antivirus2002, SpywareGuard, Spyblocker. Iam trying out Trojan Hunter as my Anti-Trojan software but am also considering TDS 3. Also does anyone know when it will be updated to TDS4 and if I decide to use it. Is it worthwhile getting WG3 and PE1.35

    Hi Malcolm D,

TDS3 doesn't seem to slow down my Toshiba 1400 laptop one bit (1.2G Celeron, 512M RAM). I'm also running NOD32 AV, RegProt, Port Explorer, and Wormguard.

    Regards,
    Jim

My system is far less advanced from yours and rather slow by nature and i don't see any further slowing down or differences running TDS or not.
The exec protection could cause a fraction of a second delay at starting executables after first testing them, and the scanning processes are multi-threaded trying to use as much bandwidth as possible to speed up the scanning process, so i start TDS manually after system reboot and don't start other heavy processes till it finished all the startupscanning (i use all there is) and at Full System Scans i keep other programs back till that one is finished.

Other things might have to do with settings and finetuning processes and giving priorities, such things.

We know there is heavy building on TDS-4 and WG-4, also PE is beta-tested for a new version already, more tools in the build at the moment.
I like to point you to the actionpack for those three programs mentioned:
TDS-3, WG-3, PE, TDS-4, WG-4, the latter two when they and the coming PE update appear all $190 value for $99 now.

The decission to use it is yours of course and we all do recommend to try them on your system.
Above in this TDS forum FanJ was so kind to stick some configuration advices; you might like to change some for your system in the startup like checking all there is for instance like i did, and maybe in the scanning also checking all there is and the worm sensitivity test on highest.

TDS-3 is more an on demand scanner and much more then that; the exec protection (available in the registered version) checks all exes anyway, and you'll find in TDS a whole suite of tools for detection and much more. You will see some in the helpfile (call it a manual) about the possibilities, and you can add a lot of new functions via the scripting possibilities and add scripts from others, like there are several posted in the private forum (accessable only for registered operators) from users. Very nice to work on together, btw :)
In fact TDS is only limited in possibilities by our own imagination. I really like it, and not in the last place the support forums and the support from DCS which cover a remarkable manual by now i can help other users with rather adequate.
The quality, daily updates and sometimes even more then once in emergencies, the long lasting license to use it including the upgrades, what more do we want?
I see you use WinME so you're probably interested in multimedia and the msagents which come installed with that; my own scripting goes most in relation to those (in TDS you'll see the "Innerpeace" script as a demo for that if you also have the character Genie in your chars folder --just load the script and follow Genie's recommendations :)), you will find speech technology integrated with TDS, you can play music from it and start other programs with easy scripts, and lots and lots more.
Hope this answers some of your most burning questions.

    Hello malcolmd & welcome.

TDS3's on demand scanner, when using all the in depth scanning utilities can use be a little time consuming but is probably only necessary say once a week. When scanning individual files the time is negligable.

Execution protection is the only resident part of TDS3 and has only minimal impact whilst opening aa programme - This function is only in the full version and can be installed & uninstalled at will.

Other utilities that can be enable or disabled in TDS3 may have a minor impact on performance but again this is negligable in most circumstances.

My experience is that it is a mother at start-up when it first scans the system and running processes, but that takes less than a minute and after that I haven't detected any slow down as a result with executive protection enabled as well.

    My stats:
    P4 1.5ghz
    512 PC800
    80gig Diamond Ultra 9 Drive
    Geforce Ti 4400 128megs
    OS Wk2 Sp3
    Running services at start-up:17

On slower systems with all scans checked it can take several minutes, reasons why most people with the slower systems and/or little RAM rather start it manually after reboot.

I have found that the Process memory scan can take a while if enabled in the start up scan and the time for this is, of course, dependant on the amount of processes running. For me it is only a matter of about one minute more with forty processes some of which are very agressive resident security programmes.
    XP2200 CPU.

You can do te Process memeoy scan seperately using scan control - live process memeory space.

As far as I know TDS3 is the only AT that enables such a complete range & depth of scans - Makes you wonder why nobody else can or does?
