Help please - I'm trying to setup my first backup:

    Using build 3567

    Using Create Backup Wizard

Choosing The Entire Disk Contents or Individual Partitions

Selecting my Disk 1 C: and D: drives (Disk 1 is my computers internal HD)

I then get the screen saying to choose incremental or differential, or if this is your first backup choose backup everything

When I get to the next screen to select the target for backup, the only target that shows up on the left side is my desktop folder - nothing above it, nothing below it. My external hard drive that I want to use for the backup does not appear. I see no way to navigate over to it. The program then usually locks up on this screen and I have to ctrl-alt-del out of it.

Is this program for real or did I just buy a piece of junk? Last night when I downloaded the trial version I couldn't try it out because when I tried to activate it I repeatedly got an error message back from the Acronis server. I've never seen that happen with downloaded software before and I've purchased a ton of it. I purchased the software because I was anxious to get some backups done - I figured the purchased version would not encounter the error (it didn't) and the industry magazine awards on the website convinced me this was a good product. I'm starting to wonder what I've got here. Can anyone help?

What type of external do you have ... USB or Firewire? USBs are usually no problem.

The program you have bought is definitely NOT junk!!
There is something wrong with your download or installation of the software. The most obvious thing to try is to register with Acronis and download and install afresh.

Is this a problem similar to the "Slow drive info retrieval" thread?

Can you see your external hard drive in Windows? Can you copy files to it and read them back?

How is the external drive connected? USB/Firewire on the motherboard? If so what motherboard or brand of computer? If on an add-in card, what brand of card? Finally, what brand of external drive?

Have you made a Recovery CD? If so, try booting from that and see if the external drive is visible.

Let us know what's going on, and we will try to help.

    Hello jeffAMM,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

First of all, please download and install the latest build (3567) of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home which is available at the Product Updates section at our web site.

To get access to updates you should create an account then log in and use your serial number to register your software.

If the issue still remains with the latest build then please download the latest version of Acronis drivers, install it with disabled logging and see if the problem still persists.

If the problem still persists then enable logging by running the Acronis drivers installation package once again, reproduce the problem and collect the c:\snapapi.log file.

Please also create Acronis Report and Windows System Information as it is described in Acronis Help Post and submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the solution.

    Thank you.
