    Hi

My mouse stopped working after i installed kasperky Internet security update.

I tried everything but in the end....

I ran a system restore, to just after i uninstalled the previous version

    mouse started working..great

    but

System restore renames lots of folders

    really annoying

no option to print or save the log??

    so i clicked next

Can i find a log of the renamed files (renamed (2) by system restore)?

    Can you guys help?

    Hi

thanks for posting back, I'm on XP (forgot to say)

I sorted it out by restoring a back up i had made on a schedule with Macrium Reflect Disk imaging program (total fave).

    so i got it sorted

    But for the record,

System restore had renamed folders on a separate drive to my main operating system. I do backups to this drive, so it would have screwed all the differential backups up. It had renamed the folders

G:MAIN OS BU (2) ---the real folder
G:MAIN OS BU ---the one it created!!! empty

Also lots of folders for Kaspersky in
    C:program files
    and documents and settings

I searched the event viewer and couldn't find any information regarding the action System restore had performed.

The only way i found out was half from memory and i searched for all files created today called "(2)"

Its a bit of a pet hate:
Programs that do stuff and don't have a clear and find-able log
    or no log at all

Also when system restore changed all these files
100 or 200 If you can imagine every single file for Kaspersky renamed with a
    xxxx(2) yyy(2) zzzzz(2)

then system restore opened a 8 line window on boot, with scroll bar and no option to, print ,keep ,save ,printscreen or do anything. explaining all the files it had renamed

i clicked 'next' and the information was lost.

Maybe Microsoft expected me to remember 100 or so file locations !!!!

    Pretty sucky

I probably avoid system restore after this

Macrium Reflect saved me again :)
