system hangs on startup

hi, my pc seems to hang upon startup for some strange reason i.e. only some processes are started immediately after logging in and the other processes will load a while after the first few. is this related to eset smart security in any way, as the problem immediately arose after installing the eset software? i have disabled file scanning on system startup etc....Also, while loading the processes, i always get a balloon pop up tip from my operating system (xp sp3) that says eset smart security 4.2 is turned off and eset personal firewall is turned off, when infact eset SS is running. i will post a screenshot soon. anyone know how to fix this problem?

half the processes havent loaded it (including LAN process) and at this point, there is a hang.

 

Balloon popup is showed when you disable some of the main security features (firewall, antivirus protection etc.).

 

check the even viewer logs for errors
