hey wilders, on my parents/family/secondary computer, im using online armor free as a firewall/hips and its works great most of the time.

but randomly, the computer will be really really slow and come to a crawl to the point where i have to reboot.

and i check the task manager but the cpu usage is at 0% even when its really slow. this never happened before installing OA free, but for the most part it works perfectly.

could this be just an online armor free problem, or is this a sign of a possible rootkit because it slows down the computer but in task manager the cpu usage is normal?

any advice/help would be much appreciated.

ok i checked and it seems that onine armor is somehow conflicting with avira's avgntfl service or something. not sure how to fix it though

You can exclude that Avira service and see if that works.
    Main Menu\Options\Exclusions.
Interestingly, I uninstalled/reinstalled OA last night, and while configuring OA, I excluded a bunch of security programs, only to have my internet connection mysteriously slow to a crawl.
I deleted all the exclusions, and presto, high speed internet returned!
So I'm going to wait until I see a conflict before I configure anymore exclusions.
    YMMV :)

I'm talking about excluding the Avira file in OA.
Open OA UI and navigate Main Menu\Options\Exclusions
then click on Add and browse to the file you wish to exclude.

nvm the free version has exclusion but it wont let me add just the avgntfl.sys file.

This is very interesting.I never figure it out,why the combo OA (no matter, pro or free) and Avast 5 home, slows down my net connection. And i always liked this combo. And yes,the first thing on installing OA,was to exclude Avast.I want to try this now.Let you know if it worked for me.

    EDIT
IT WORKED!I don't have a clue why,but....the speed browsing is normal now.I excluded Avast from OA list, and only excluded OA on Avast exceptions list.
    Geee..what a weird thing....anyway,thanks for the tip Page42 :thumb: :D

hey page42, i made an exclusion for the avira folder, but now i cannot delete the exclusion. if i close the OA user interface and reopen it avira is still in the exclusion list. any way to fix this?

and also how do i add just one specific file to the exlclusion list?

    thx in advance

    To delete the exclusion:
    On Options\Exclusions page
    1. highlight desired folder path
    2. click Delete
    3. Confirm Yes in dialog box
    4. Close
    5. Reopen and it should be gone.

As for adding just one specific file, I don't think that is possible, or if it is, I haven't seen a way to do it.

Out of curiosity, what set up are you running? What other security applications? One of them might be impacting OA. For example, if I choose to isolate MailWasher Pro in GeSWall and I make configuration changes in MWP, it will appear that the changes have been accepted, but when I reopen MWP, none of them stuck. And that is as it should be.

Other than that, if you are following those basic steps I outlined and the deletion is not working, you probably need to uninstall/reinstall OA, or ask on their support forum.

As a quick thought, you could try adding the exclusion again, and deleting again.

i rebooted the comp but the exclusion is still there.

and i noticed there is no more avnotfy.exe in the programs secions of OA free. i set it to block but i dont see it on the list anymore

You're not running OA as untrusted (isolated) in GeSWall, are you?

Use an e-mail address that can get mail: OA keeps this for update notices etc
TallEmu treats end users with respect
Never had "unneccessary" mail from them.

    I agree with Longboard.
You'll receive a Welcome to Online Armor email each time you install that will include contact numbers and instructions for getting help. Each one I've received also contains an upgrade offer...

I never worry about giving my email to such companys. If I accept their free applications that I think are good I trust the with my email address.

sorry about the late reply, but i reinstalled online armor free and the avira exclusion isnt there. it happened again today, but i think it has something to do with an avira driver. but if i put avira in the exclusion list then i cant block avnotify.exe.....
