    hello,
so far on opensuse 11 with GNome i have installed totem, opensuse multimedia, and packages shown in the screenshot
totem starts to play the dvd but doesnt display it proper. has green fuzz. just like windows did to start with.
btw i only reinstalled vista the day before yesterday and to start with couldnt play the dvd in media player until i set the region for the drive and rebooted.
suddenly opensuse wants me to install the updates and some need a reboot so i will update it reboot and try playing the dvd then. i needed to insstall gsstream and all the plugins to get that far.

its only setup in a virtualbox virtual machine atm. compiz is installed as default but at least atm cannot enable it. if i get stuff running may be able to test it on my real machine. i will test the cmd command tomorrow.
sometimes windows still throws the error message when trying to play the dvd in media player ugh.
plays fine in vlc media player on windows.

I'm not sure that Totem is worth the effort involved getting it to work. It's usually the first thing I uninstall, along with Rhythmbox and G-Spot.

A combination of VLC and MPlayer plus (MPlayer Plugin for Firefox, Skins and Fonts) should cover most if not all of your Video needs.

What movie are you trying to view? From my experience if the DVD movie that you're trying to view has a lot of copy-right protection on it then your only solution is LinDVD. VLC (your best shot other than LinDVD) is suppose to have coding to allow viewing of some types of copy-written DVDs but not all.

It's tough cause it's hard to guess where you are with everything. Most of those pages appeared to be right. How much you know about where configuration setting's are yet another variable. With some Suse experience I'd probably have been able to offer direct advice.

with the plugins shown shown in the screenshot earlier in this thread along with the opensuse multimedia one click installer for GNome i can now play the dvd in both totem and vlc media player on opensuse 11.
seems the gstreamer and the plugins where needed.

may try finding those plugins for suse enterprise linux 10 just as a test. but that will be later.
