I like SAS but need advice. My Avgas (paid) is soon due for renewal.
Should I renew or switch to SAS Pro - they currently have a special
    @$19.95.
Only concern is that SAS, the free version, with icon enabled, uses more
memory than avgas on my system.
Currently my only protection is NOD32, Comodo firewall, Opera, behind
router, avgas, and Frontgate for deleting unwanted mail from server.

    What should I do ?

    hello Ocky,
IMO i would buy superantispyware Pro.
it might use more memory than avg as but it never slows me down.

First, let me ask where you see the $19.95 special? I just downloaded the free version to my daughters computer, and I promised I would pay for the Pro version when I see it for $19.95.
Now to your question. I have both SAS pro and AVG on my computer. I have SAS running real time, and AVG as on demand. I like them both.

I have really grown to like AVG AS. I find it finds a few more things then SAS. I may even buy it.

I have the free version as you know. When I check for updates (manually)
and after the latest defs. are d/loaded, there is an informative pop-up
showing exactly what was added to the sig. base. On top it says upgrade
to Pro. @$19.95 plus lifetime updates.
Unfortunately I can't send you a screenshot right now because I have just
updated. Apparently this offer will expire soon (..it says one day only),
although I must say it was 'one day only' for quite some time.

I intend to keep both progs. but am undecided as to which I should only
    use as on demand.

Uninstalling SAS Pro trial (or free I think) takes you to a webpage where the offer is $19.95 + free lifetime updates.

Here is the screenshot showing upgrade to pro for $19.95 (from wife's
laptop - she also has SAS free at the moment). Clicking on 'banner'
takes you to webpage. I have seen this with every update for quite
a number of days now and hope that Nick will not withdraw
the special before I have decided. :p

Forgot to mention a-squared. I have the free version for on-demand.
All three products are damn efficient but for some reason I have not
come across many folks using a-squared real time. The occasional fp's
    I can live with.

SAS Pro for sure, it's a great product!

NOTE: I am going to buy another SAS Pro lifetime key today after I come back home around 6, it still better be at the special price or else!

$19.95 for an app with lifetime registration and support, especially of the caliber Nick provides, is chump change and a no-brainer.

If this were ewido being developed by ewido, the choice would be more difficult. That not being the case, I see SAS going forward with the quality and competitive spirit of a developer that wants people to smile when they say his name. As WSFuser said in post #6, buy SAS Pro, use AVGAS on demand.

AVG-AS still has the Ewido heart, thanks to the developers. To me, its a no brainer.

I don't think you would go wrong with either of these in real time, just use the other for on demand. The best of both worlds.:D

Even if I find running realtime AS useless, I'd buy SAS just to support Nick and his great team.
If you feel confortable enough with the CLI and batchs/scripts, I'd add the Ewido and A-Squared CLI scanners to check attachments, downloads, installers and then I'd use SAS to do system-wide scanning and real-time protection (if you end buying it).

OK. Thanks to all for advice. Whilst I think all 3 viz. a2; SAS and AVGAS are
pretty good, I have done what twl845 did, and now have SAS Pro installed.

Question. When the icon sits in the system tray can I be sure that
real-time protection is activated ? (Start up with Windows was not selected).

Also, do lifetime updates mean lifetime new version release updates ? and is
there a "licence time limit" ? I paid the $19.95 and email confirmation
says SUPERAntispyware Professional with LIFETIME updates.

Great stuff but can someone 'flesh out' the lifetime updates position for me ?

Grateful for having this program running smoothly. Is memory normal - plse.
    see screenshot.

Ocky - You have to select start up with Windows, so it starts when you boot up and stays on. As far as "lifetime", I take that to mean as long as you have the software.

    Hi twl845 !

I prefer to start SAS manually, which places icon in the tray. Surely this
means that real-time protection is active - 'enable real-time protection' is
then also ticked (confirmed by r/clicking the beetle icon) ?

What memory readings do you get ?

    Thanks and regards.

Ocky - Sure you can activate it by hand starting it, but you paid to have the ability to have it start on auto. I have never checked the memory usage as I have 1GB of RAM, and it's not an issue for me.:)

Yes, you are right. Everything's hunky dory. I have 2GB RAM. Just always
trying to have as little start-up stuff as possible. A habit from my Windows
98 days, but probably rather silly with my current setup.

Thanks again for your input. :thumb:

A-Squared isn't too good, I would go with SAS Pro over AVG AS (AVG is just not my cup of tea)

But SAS is my cup of coffee and I prefer it over AVG AS Plus. Buy SAS
