I wouldn't call the SUMo mechanism flaky, but it is true that the system is heavily user base dependent.
Kyle provides the matrix with SUMo, and the user base provides the information.
With enough users, and always some users having an eye out for updates using other notification services and websites, the SUMo system works quite well, usually.
However, in cases with software only used by a few users, SUMo may overlook certain updates, when no SUMo user installed certain updates, yet.

And here lies the weakness but maybe I don't see the whole picture cause I don't know specifics about the matrix. Either way, today I saw notepad++ v7 showed up in the database so at the end of the day SUMo does the job.:thumb:

    True.
But I think the practical outcome is not much different for a user base dependent system like SUMo, or other community based systems, and notification services or websites maintained by companies like for instance FileHippo, SnapFiles, or Neowin.
In my experience, many times SUMo reports an update before those other notification services or websites mention that update. I think that is because SUMo has quite a solid user base having an eye out for updates.
In case of software only used by few users, usually other notification services or websites don't do any better than SUMo.
Anyhow, it is important to realize that nor SUMo, nor other notification services or websites are flawless, especially with less popular software.

Agreed. Absolutely right. One never stops learning new things even in my own field: computers. I'm talking about those user base dependent systems which I didn't know their existence or how they worked.
    Kudos for SUMo.

    Bit off-topic:
Talking about underlying mechanisms not the majority knows, I have this one about express delta downloads for M$ Windows Update mechanism:

This is still planned for a future release.
v5.0 mainly focussed on HMI and user experience. v5.1 and later will address such functionnal improvements.

Sorry for the emergency minor update (5.0.1) but i just found out that v5.0 introduced a regression that rejected all "Premium" KC Softwares licence (the $99 lifetime Software package)

You're welcome ! It's always a shame when paid users are the only ones to suffer from poor upstream verification ... ;-(

Probably too much of a change in design philosophy and effort in implementation, but perhaps you could consider somehow using Ketarin to supplement this, to check for undiscovered updates on the database?

It would 'discover' an update immediately one was posted, but the download path for the product would need to be defined (and maintained!).

On reflection I realise this would not be possible for you for every product. And those in the SUMo 'collective' who use Ketarin, or other means, would 'expose' these updates so ignore my suggestion. :)

Webroot SecureAnywhere quarantines this version of sumo_lite for adware.

    A moment ago, I scanned sumo_lite.exe 5.0.2.334 with VirusTotal.
It showed that also the K7AntiVirus and K7GW scans say that sumo_lite.exe 5.0.2.334 contains adware.
Probably, Webroot SecureAnywhere, K7AntiVirus and K7GW don't distinguish between the SUMo Regular installer and the Lite installer - which is rather stupid, I would say.

I warned Webroot support for this. There should be a fix soon. Meanwhile, please disregard Webroot warning.
