    Hi,
The only two people who I know are using SL6 here in this sub-forum of Wilders are Ocky and Mack_Guy. Hopefully there are others. Anyways, I need some suggestions of a dock (like cairo-dock that I use in Ubuntu) for SL6. Presently I only have a very large Desktop icon for Firefox 6 (fc12 remi). Any help will be appreciated.

On a side note, I finally found a real easy way to save updates and then use them to do installs or re-installs. If anyone is interested then let me know and I'll post how to do it. It's not as easy as AptOnCD but it's not bad.

    Later...

    Bob

Thanks, Mack_Guy, for the reply. Actually, the AWN version that Ocky linked to is working for me. I would prefer a few more options than what is available but hey it's better than what I had. Maybe we can find a newer version somewhere. Think I start looking.

    Thanks again. :).

    Hello Trespasser,

Right, let us know when you find something. I have tried to no avail
The awn applets package (from the same source) is a nightmare i.e. won't work as far as I
    can see.
PS. saw in an earlier post that you have found a special method to save downloaded packages. Please tell all. :)

Here are the links to AWN 0.4.0-1, and its dependencies, that I found and they work in SL6 32bit. I've included 64bit versions as well....

    ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/archive....vant-window-navigator-0.4.0-1.fc12.x86_64.rpm

    ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/archive..../avant-window-navigator-0.4.0-1.fc12.i686.rpm

    ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/archive..../libdesktop-agnostic-0.3.90-7.fc12.x86_64.rpm

    ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/archive....86/libdesktop-agnostic-0.3.90-7.fc12.i686.rpm

    ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/archive....desktop-agnostic-bin-0.3.90-7.fc12.x86_64.rpm

    ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/archive....ibdesktop-agnostic-bin-0.3.90-7.fc12.i686.rpm

    ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/archive....hon-desktop-agnostic-0.3.90-7.fc12.x86_64.rpm

    ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/archive....ython-desktop-agnostic-0.3.90-7.fc12.i686.rpm

Install libdesktop-agnostic, libdesktop-agnostic-bin, and python-desktop-agnostic first. Then install avant-window-navigator-0.4.0-1. The installer will want to install 3 other dependencies from sl6 repos when you try to install avant-window-navigator-0.4.0-1.

A few more options to choose from compared to 0.3.2.

Yes, many thanks Trespasser ! Can confirm works great.
I am a bit apprehensive regarding the awn extras applets. For instance, to name one dependency:-
    gnome-python2-gtkmozembed-2.25.3-22.fc12.x86_64 requires gecko-libs = 1.9.1.15
That looks like an old xulrunner version.

Anyway, quite happy as is. :)

I have another question. What menu are you using in SL6 besides the standard Main Menu or Menu Bar? I found and got working mintmenu (fc12) but would prefer to use something else.

BTW, if you would like to install firefox 6 for el6 then you can pick it up here if you wish...

hello i successfully installed cairo dock with its plugins but i done it on live cd of centos

    here download

    http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/releases/12/Everything/x86_64/os/

    cairo-dock-2.1.1.2-1.fc12.x86_64.rpm

    cairo-dock-plug-ins-2.1.1.2-1.fc12.x86_64.rpm

    for installing plugin you need

    libetpan.so.13()(64bit)

    http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/sta...a_12/com/libetpan-0.58-2.fc12.x86_64.rpm.html

    su

    # cd Downloads

    # yum install cairo-dock-2.1.1.2-1.fc12.x86_64.rpm

    it will install cairo dock

    for cairo plugin ist install

    # yum install --nogpgcheck libetpan-0.58-2.fc12.x86_64.rpm

    then

    # yum install cairo-dock-plug-ins-2.1.1.2-1.fc12.x86_64.rpm

if all work ok it install cairo dock

please do it at your own risk i just did it on live cd not on real SL so i cannot comment :D

Edit: just install cairo on SL working ok not bad but im not cairo fan or never use one so cannot comment much on it.

Nice, Mack_Guy! I SO much prefer cairo-dock over AWN. With this addition my SL6.1 will be almost on par with my Lucid installs.

    Great find, dude.

    Thanks. :thumb: .
