This thread is a follow-up of this thread:
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=10850

I wanted to open a special thread for this news:
Stephen Martin will no longer maintain his HOSTS file (as I read this news elsewhere).

Call it my personal thread, if you like.
But I had to post it.
    I feel so sorry.
I was using his HOSTS file for such a time.....
(and added my own entries when I felt the need to do so).

Steve: THANK YOU for all your hard work !!!!!

It is sad to see that resource go. Steve (and other contributors) put in a lot of time and effort over the years to maintain the hosts file.

But all is not lost for those wanting to keep their hosts file current. One alternative is a hosts file hpguru maintains and updates regularly.
    Download hpguru's hosts file.
Discussion on his hosts file can be found at Proxomitron Forum 2002 - The Hosts File.

Yes, I appreciate the time taken to develop this idea.

I use the hosts file at work where I don't have my fave Ad Blockers :)

    Thanks.

    Thanks in advance ;) ,

    Hi Kent,

I have full_127001.zip from 10-2-03 in my archive.
I think that that was the last one.
-edited: I guess the actual date was Febr. 9, 2003-
I will email it to you.

    Cheers, Jan.

PS: be aware that that full version had also the "not-for-everyone-section" included.
If you don't want to have that section, just remove it.
As you might know, there were always two versions:
    1- the one with 127.0.0.1
    2- the one with 0.0.0.0
This is the one with 127.0.0.1
If you prefer (for some reason) the 0.0.0.0 version, you have to replace in every entry 127.0.0.1 with 0.0.0.0

    Hi Kent,

I was happy that I could send you Steve's latest HOSTS file (I have, eh...., a big archive  ;)).
Yep, I agree with you, CrazyM and others:
I too feel sad that Stephen stopped to maintain his file. I was using it for years.
    Again: a big thank-you to Steve !!!

Well, we have to go on.....
    CrazyM posted about hpguru's file.
I have to admit that -until now- I haven't take a look at his file (shame on me ).
I guess I will do it this week, and -maybe- merge his one with my existing one (based on Steve's latest one; and to which -as I wrote- I added my own entries).
That merging will be done using Hostess (and the latest new one of that one I too have to install yet ).

    Cheers, Jan.

    Hello all,

I believe that HPGuru's Hosts file is the next best thing to Steve's. I have been merging the 2 for a while now. With Steve gone, I think everyone who uses a Hosts file should check out HPGuru.

    Regards,
    Kent
