    Yep, the debate over "Trusted Computing" has been going on for years. While it does have security benefits, the dangerous outweigh the pros, imo. As Stallman says, TPM gives a vendor the ability to control everything that goes on on a PC. We are seeing perhaps a new incarnation of this with Intel's recent announcement that they may be planning on implementing this on the CPU itself.

    Although several years old, Stallman wrote a good piece about the dangers of TPM chips here. Also Ross Anderson has a good, and level headed, FAQ on the pros and cons of TPM here. (Written in 2003).
