Working on a friends box with ME.
She had all scumware known to man on it.
Installed SpywareBlaster, updated, hit select all but when I hit the "Protect Against.." it unchecks and leaves in red all updates.
Tried running Spybot S&D and had trouble getting updates.
Ran AdAware, cleaned 162 items and retried SpywareBlaster. Same problem.
    Uninstalled, reinstalled...same problem.
    Any ideas?

    Hi catseyenu,

It might help to download BHODemon and disable any or all BHO's that are left. I suspect some downloadmanager was removed incompletely.

    Keep us posted,

    Pieter

    Hi catseyenu,

    If that does not help:

Please go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/, and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log as a .txt file, and copy and paste its contents into your next post.

Most of what it lists will be harmless, so do not fix anything yet.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Pieter,
    Got it and will do.
This started out as a simple "install a firewall" for her new broadband connection.
Weaning them of AOL can be tedious. ;)
    Thank you again,

    Hi catseyenu,

Actually only the one you already disabled by BHODemon:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CF419EB8-5219-4562-82BC-06A41623212C} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MBHO.DLL (disabled by BHODemon)

    Which is most likely

    Pieter,
I've run Ad-Aware, RapidBlaster remover and disabled everything I can and still no love.
SpywareBlaster still won't take the settings.
Could it be a new exploit or just a badly maintained box.
I removed 5 instances of Klez from it at the start so it's hard to tell who really ownes this box.
Time to format and reinstall, I've too many other people that need help right now.
    Thanks for your help.

Heh, though we try to educate & salvage what we can, "we" didn't create the problem.
"They" perish for lack of knowledge...
