The alternative method does work. So for those people having the problem of auto updates (like me), use the alternative method to keep your database up to date until the bug has been fixed.

They all downloaded fine for me... o_O
The sbdatabase2.dtb.temp file contains garbage characters if opened in Notepad (and of course still contains them if the .temp extension is deleted), in contrast to the normal sbdatabase2.dtb which contains alphanumeric characters (the list of definitions in hexadecimal, I guess).

I don't remember seeing such a file ever downloaded before. It will be interesting to see what causes this problem...

    BS :)

i just tried to update my other computer on the network
one with windows 2000 in it
with the same results, corrupted database
(so i switched to the alternative method and that worked)

so it is probably related to me being behind a network/router?

I have had a lot of problems with updates. The only two times I haven't had problems has been the March 10 and today's update. Both times I had bypassed my router (Linksy BEFSR41 ver 3 1.6.1 beta firmware).

Actually many users of Spywareblaster are not having problems with the update....or many of the well known Security Forums would have threads such as this going. While it is unfortunate that some are having this problem...."please know" they are "working on a fix as quickly as is possible. (The problem does not affect most users.)"

    Hi from New Zealand

On a friend's computer we updated from version 3.2 to 3.3 and now, when we click Check for Updates, we get an error message telling us the computer cannot connect. We are both 'newbies' so can't understand tech speak. The upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3 works fine in my computer. 3.2 was working perfectly.

We uninstalled 3.2 before upgrading to 3.3. We have uninstalled & reinstalled twice but still get the same message. HELP please, where do we go from here in simple terms :)

He is running Xp home SP2
    anti-virus - Nortons
    firewall - Nortons
    anti-spyware - Spybot Search & Destroy
    blocking agents - None
    connection - Lan [router]

    Thanks from Kiwiyumyum

  24. Had the database corruption issue as everyone else is commenting,
but switching to the alternate download method fixed the download.

    1.) OS : Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4
    2.) Anti-Virus : McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0
    3.) Firewall : None
    4.) Anti-spyware : Ad-aware 6 / SpyBot 1.3 / Microsoft Anti-Spyware
    5.) Ad-blocking/filtering: Google toolbar?
    6.) Using plain old dial-up
    7.) Nothing special to comment.

  25. I tried to also directly download each individual file as someone
previously posted. I downloaded each of the 5 files and added _test
to the filename as they were saved.

The following is an ls -l of the installation directory after (I use Cygwin)
and with only the filesize and filename...
I assume the filesize difference is perhaps due to compression
on the database files to make them easy to download. Why only
sbinfo.dtb is not on the website in its compressed format, I do not know.
Perhaps because of its size, it did not warrant compressing?

193425 sbdatabase.dtb_test.dtb* [downloaded direct from website]
379318 sbdatabase.dtb* [result of the alternate download method]

    34261 sbdatabase2_test.dtb*
    67198 sbdatabase2.dtb*

    161804 rsdatabase_test.dtb*
    314522 rsdatabase.dtb*

    21744 sbinfo_test.dtb*
    21744 sbinfo.dtb*

    19770 ckdatabase_test.dtb*
    37926 ckdatabase.dtb*

    Sincerely,
