    Hi,
    I'm running windows 98 SE and using spyware guard 2.2.0

    When I run spybot search & destroy it's coming up with dialer XXX under C:\\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\SPYWAREGUARD.INK

    What's up with that?

    I can't remove it because it's in red and it won't let me ignore it.

    I am on a Win98 workstation using Spybot 1.4 with latest def files and just now placed a Spywareguard shortcut link on the desktop but Spybot did not find it.

    What version of Spybot are you using ?

    Unless I'm not understanding you correctly....all Products found are in red. If you click on the +(plus) sign and right click on that item you should then be able to select Exclude this product from further searches.

    I have also searched the Official Spybot Search & Destroy Support Forum and as yet have not found any past problems such as this.

    Also....I will be moving this thread to a more appropriate Forum later since this is not a SpywareGuard(Javacool Software) issue but a Spybot False positive issue.

    Yes,
    I totally understand that. I click on the plus sign and then right-click on it and it WILL NOT let me select the option to disclude this product from further searches, and I don't know why.

    There is always a first for everything but in all my years of assisting and working with Spybot I have never seen where an item could not be ignored....especially on a DOS based operating system like Win98.

    While this does not help you understand why you can't accomplish this....you could always simply delete the SpywareGuard desktop item since it is not really needed.

    Neither do I understand why spybot will not let me ignore that item. I deleted it from the desktop and spybot then proceeded to find the same dialer xx on real player shortcut on the desktop and I couldn't ignore that either. I know these are false positives and the whole thing is basically annoying, but I tried uninstalling spybot and reinstalling it again to make sure nothing was wrong with the program itself. It didn't help at all. I am basically going to use spybot to immunize the system and then use Adaware SE and a little program that I have used in the past which seems to work better than sypbot or adaware and it's called a-squared 1.6 and it's freeware. It has picked up a virus on my system in the past that Norton couldn't find.

    Strange indeed :doubt:

    Even tho you are choosing not to use Spybot scanning any longer....I will monitor an ongoing thread at the Official Spybot Forum that concerns this same problem.

    This thread---> Dialer_xx, false positive?

    Also....in order to possibly help other users in the future with this problem would you mind following the below instructions and post either your Checks or Fixit logs into a post here Please.
