Left click start in your system tray,
    left click control panel,
left click add or remove programs,
left click on spysweeper and then........ Ok sirusly now :D........
It's been a long time since i've used SS.
But as far as I can remember,
Don't you just turn the shields off to use it as an on demand scanner?

I'll assume you have the Spy Sweeper WITHOUT antivirus.

You'll always have one or two Spy Sweeper services that are loaded at (re)boot.

I just took a look at my version, it looks like you need to uninstall the Spy Sweeper, and then perform a customized install. Make sure that you then configure the Spy Sweeper to NOT load at startup.

You'll need to decide how you want to deal with updates. It seems that a manual update before a scan is your best choice if you want to use this program on demand.

And make sure that you don't install the ask.com toolbar and search assistent by accident !

However, my own experience with the Spy Sweeper is that it's good in preventing the installation of malware, but much less good in detection. (But that may be outdated information).

The previous poster beat me by a minute :)

If it's really just ON DEMAND, my solution is probably best.
