Then it surely protects against Viruses as well, since a Virus is a type of Malware. ;)

I personally just keep a portable version on a USB for the occasional on-demand scan and for immunizing.

The download size (66 MB) and installation size (> 155 MB) are insanely huge, which makes it a really no go for me. But also the fact they they haven't released any product updates (except from definition updates) for so long makes a no go for me.

I am sorry, but I just don't see the point of this program which is already outdated at the moment it enters the beta phase. Certainly if you consider what great alternatives are available.

Ok! Installed on my real system with no problem so far. Asks for restart (not restarted yet). Gives a lot of customization options during install and also in the program interface. interface is OK for me. Lets see how does it perform.

It installs half a dozen services, set to automatic start. Previous version was not services-based.

 If this is true for the final, I'm going to switch to portable version if it will allow Immunization.

The previous version does install a service named SBSD Security Center Service.

    Hi,
I just installed the new Beta to my vmware and everything was fine. I choosed "full install" and after isntallation I had to restart the machine. Then I started it and was really surprised. The new user interface is really nice to handle (see screenshots above). Of course there are a few bugs but it is still a beta!

Maybe it is a good alternative to others. I will give it a try next time I am infected with malware ;-) (Lets hope not to soon :argh: )

I mistakenly thought "Files for a portable installation" meant it would allow for a limited portable installation of SB itself, disabling the services and allowing the folder to be moved etc

It actually refers to the ability to clean portable installs of other programs.

Is it possible in the beta to install only the teatimer part of Spybot?
