Thought S&D was good until now, just done a scan, took 96% CPU usage - now that can't be right?

That appears normal to me. All of my on demand scanners use high CPU during a scan...typically fluctuating between 70% and 99%. Including Spybot.

You can throttle your scans in S&D. Go to the "Settings" panel and you will be able to adjust the amount of CPU usage your scans take.
