Well, we certainly can't rule out corruption caused by errors between the last reinstall and when these site problems started. I rarely recommend reinstalls to anyone, though that is certainly an option. Still, it'd be better to determine the source of the problem because "being an unknown" means it could return simply by way of how you are reinstalling and reconfiguring. (It could be caused by an application being added, a tweak you generally do on your systems, configuration changes made by ISP or other install processes... Who can say?)

If we still did HijackThis Logs here, I'd suggest starting there just to rule out spyware as a possible source. Going through the entire scanning, cleaning and review process might turn something up. (You could always try that, perhaps over at ComputerCops or another similar forum.)

Another idea would be to try repairing IE to see what that does.

Are you on dialup? Does you ISP have any of those fancy web accelerator options (you know, "5x the normal web speed of other dialup ISPs")? Those can cause some problems.

Thanks LowWaterMark, HijackThis is as clean as a whistle, I can identify every single item of the 21 listed. ;)
I think I will perhaps give it a few days longer, it is fairly well set up and going well (except for this problem) I will consider repair of IE before anything else if this gets any worse. Most sites seem to be alright. :)
I want to thank yourself and all other helpers for going through this with me. :D

No, no fancy stuff here just as it sits.

    Yes mOp,

Digest well LWM's suggestions. Work with adjustments one at a time.
Too many will not allow you to target the problem.

In the thread he gave you, run it down to post #13, Tassie Devils,
    and look at method 2.

If you motion to repair IE, this should be the easiest.

LWM, I experienced a problem with my ISP's accelerator, as soon as I
dumped it, lol things were O.K. again. My two cents...

Keep us posted mOp ;) ,

Hello, just to finish with, I done the repair of IE6 and problem still remains. I can live with it for the time being anyway. :)

Actually, this is very interesting... :D

I was just finishing up for the night (it's now after 6am here) and saw you online, so I did a quick dump of the webserver logs just to see if I could see anything odd (such as error messages, bad links, whatever). And then I looked again at the very first image in the first post of this thread. Well, this is what I noticed...

For testing purposes, I suggest people right-click this and open it in a new window:

Click here to see what mOp has been seeing

In that window, I see all the broken images and such as shown in the first post in this thread. Clicking most normal links in that new window moves you around the forum, but stuck in that odd view - missing images, thread lists, etc.

To get out of it, you can 1. simply go into the browser address bar and correct the link, or 2. scroll to the very bottom of the page and click on the "Wilders Security" link in the lower toolbar (next to "Contact Us").

So what is this exactly? Well, look at the links, especially the one from the first screen shot in post #1. Do you see it? It's the wrong link for the forum. It is (spaces added to see it all):

    http:// www. wilderssecurity. com/ index.php/ forumdisplay.php?f=34

Notice the 'index.php' followed by 'forumdisplay...'? That's not right. The proper forum display URL is:

    http:// www. wilderssecurity. com/ forumdisplay.php?f=34

Now, I have no idea how you are getting into this in the first place. Perhaps you should check your bookmarks and/or favorites to see what link you have stored for this forum. If not a bad stored URL, then something on your system is causing the various links and all to corrupt with that extra "index.php" level.

    LWMark,

I see you have put that magnifier to good use. That is strange, unless with that url, that's what someone gets comming in?

This is also the page I see with that link.

    Good EYE'S!

Thanks LowWaterMark, I use www.wilderssecurity.com/index.php/ to get to the site and then, that's it, the only stored link I have. But thanks for all your trouble, I will stop now and digest your post. ;)

Thanks LowWaterMark, that's lookin' better now. It's strange where that last / came from, when I put your link in, the dropdown displayed the proper link as you have it. I must have accidently added it at some stage.
I have a list of regularly used addys and it is entered properly. After my reformat last week I must have stuck that / in when re-entering. ;)
    Thanks a million again anyway.

So it looks like that little error is carried right through the duration of my visit to Wilderssecurity.com and carries on mucking up.
It's good to get it sorted, I really dislike it when something (that's anything I have) is not running correctly. :D

I guess I'm rapidly learning that I know absolutely nothing about HTML especially hotlinks. I tried LWM's test and got the "correct" result (i.e., the one with most of the page and most images missing). And I'd always thought that in a case like that, you'd simply get a "page not found" error.
