As I was searching for the good ol' Blue Frog and software like it, I found some interesting information, but if any of you know of similar anti-spam software which 'fights back'... please post your links :)

    The information I found:

    Information on Blue Frog:

    Code:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Frog
An article about Blue Frog and it's predecessors:

    Code:
    http://news.zdnet.co.uk/security/0,1000000189,39271074,00.htm
    A predecessor in development:

    Code:
    http://www.okopipi.org/
    /JLR

To deal with spam involving websites, the best method looks to be a combination of SpamCop (reports the source of the spam and websites involved to their respective ISPs) and Complainerator (automates the reporting of spam domains and nameservers to domain registrars, again to shut down spam-related websites). Knujon is another reporting site that attempts to get spam-related sites shut down.

The most potent way to hurt a spammer though is to place fake orders on their website which then imposes a cost on them (since most have to pay for every credit card number submitted). Utilities like Imperator (requires Firefox) can help automate this process. Retaliators.net has several utilities tailored for specific spammers.

In the case of spam with no related website (stock spam, religion-related garbage), reporting it to SpamCop/Knujon is the most you can do.
