When creating incremental backup images, which file should you choose to append? Obviously, for the first one you would choose the Full Backup image. But after the first incremental image, should you always choose the Full Image (mybackup.tib) or the last Incremental Image from the list (mybackup1[2][3][4].tib)? I've always chosen the Full Image but I was never sure if this was the right procedure.

    Hello Colvin,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

To create an incremental disk/partition image, choose your original full disk image file in the directory tree of Image Archive Creation window and follow "Create Image" wizard.
If you already created the incremental backup, choose the last incremental disk/partition image in the directory tree.
If image archive is stored on the removable media, e.g. CD, insert the last CD and then follow "Create Image" wizard.

This information is also available in Acronis True Image User's Guide (page 21).

    Thank you,

    Interesting answer...

If you initiated an "Incremental "image wizard but ALWAYS pointed to the original full backup, would not ATI create, in effect, a differential backup?

Sounds reasonable so I had to ask (grin).

    Hello Bob,

Thank you for your interest in Acronis Disk Backup Software.

No, Acronis True Image will create incremental to the latest existing incremental image. However, if you need to create differential backup you may move several last incrementals from the folder with the full image and Acronis True Image will create incremental backup that will be in fact differential backup.

    Thank you.
