    Re: NOD32 Push Install issue

Could anyone shed any light on why this enabled an install to proceed?

    This tip from here https://www.wilderssecurity.com/archive/index.php/t-68015.html

    I followed above advice,
Untick "Use Simple File Sharing" (Explorer --> Tools --> Folder Options)
Enabled me to do a push install when:
    Firewall disabled
Admin user and password definitely correct

    Hoping it can help others.

    Cheers.

    Matt.

    Re: NOD32 Push Install issue

I'm not sure if this is related to the thread that it has been posted into but I would suggest that this is due to a difference in the authentication that the target machine expects to see and where it tries to validate the recieved domain/user/pass for accessing the share. The remote install process might just be sending too much info for the simple file sharing to handle :)

    Re: NOD32 Push Install issue

Simple file sharing allows remote users to log into the local computer with Guest privileges. This eliminates the necessity of entering a valid username and password to access the computer. In effect, this mimics the file/print sharing behavior of Windows 95/98/ME.

However, Windows XP does not allow remote processes and installations to access the local computer with Guest accounts or blank passwords. The same thing applies for Scheduled Tasks. This is by design, as a security feature. This is why it is necessary to disable Simple File Sharing when performing a remote NOD32 installation.

Heh - that should have clicked.
I'm still not sure that these last few posts are really related to the thread that they're posted under though...

Hi luddite, as your post concerns "Simple File Sharing" I have split it off and the replies into its own thread.

    Cheers :D
