Not that long ago I installed Avast Home 4.7 on my Fathers XP pro PC and ever since than he's been having shut down probs on his PC. What happens when he goes to shut the PC down is that the Avast ball on the control panel will spin than stop and the whole desktop screen will get locked up.. The only way to to shut down from here is to hold in the Power Button for 5 secs or reboot the PC and at the Login Stage choose Shutdown from there. But like I said I dont want do pint the finger 100% at Avast but I'm suspecting it is.

First, what other security software do you have on your dads pc and second, have you tried an uninstall / reinstall?
