What does your friend do with her computer?

Sandboxie is excellent, but a user needs to understand it's limits. What stays in the sandbox is safe and what you remove needs to be 99% trusted. That's why I scan everything I remove with 3 updated scanners and/or upload it to VT or Jotti. If your friend is a downloader then Sbie isn't for her unless she is disciplined.

I honestly don't know. I usually go to VT most of the time and if it's busy I go to Jotti. I do think VT has a larger number of scanners. I also scan with my Avira paid, MBAM and SAS free versions. It's not 100% but it's the best I can do with my knowledge.

If your friend is a "he" I would choose SBIE any day. Main reason -- SBIE's support is superb, but seldom needed. GesW's support is sketchy.

If your friend is a "she" -- as between SBIE or GesW, I would get her a 2009 model Mercedes -- it will earn you much warmer appreciation.

Yes you can download a program and copy it to your usb and then copy it to her machine and then install it.

If she needs an AV, Avast and Avira free are both good.

Edit: If either of your machines are infected you can share malware with a usb drive. I trust you know how to protect yourself from usb infections.

Agree with bellgamin, she would love a mercedes. Honestly, most women don't care for security programs. Anytime I've spoken to a woman about 'getting better security on her laptop etc', any brownie points I thought I had, I've lost.

Look at the number of women vs men on security sites. Most likely 1 for every thousand dudes. Most just want to log on to facebook, download free songs for their ipod, and look at tmz.com.

Avira or Avast as the AV. I like how Avast goes crazy with sounds when a virus has been found.
Prevx edge as another layer cause it's so simple, and it's colour coded so even your grandma would know what to do.

For a guy, yeah I'd pick defensewall or geswall in a second. :)

I'm going to buy a cheap flash drive, load the exes on and give it to her after everything is set up.

How much RAM do you have? I have 1GB. I've run SBie and SD together without any memory issues. Thanks for the response. :)

i know u CAN, but i never found it as useful and convenient for that compared to something like Defensewall or GesWall which are specifically made to be used system wide with everything.

After reading this thread, I became interested in trying Geswell. I booted to one of my FD-ISR snapshots and uninstalled SBie and installed Geswall. I am in the process of wading through their PDF guide, while using GW at the same time. I'm liking it. :D
