I have observed a large drop-off in the daily percentage statistics of the tested AV programs at shadowserver. I just checked, and ironically they were updated a few minutes ago and are now much higher than the previous day. It appears there is more variance than there was in prior months. This indicates that something is going on with both the AVs and the testing.

Sounds to me like the malware authors came out with some new ideas for evading the AV's and the AV publishers responded a few days later.
