What if instead of running Thunderbird under linux, a layer of protection is added by running Thunderbird under WINE under linux instead, using an account called wine that is created with very restricted rights?

How does this compare security-wise with plain Thunderbird under linux? Is there any significant protection added?

Or is it just more hoops for the baddies to jump through? Good enough for automatic malware but hopeless against human intruders?

PS. This also enables you to make you own sandboxing under linux for this particular application, by deleting the entire .wine directory at the end of each Thunderbird session and copying a fresh .wine directory from a backup at a pristine state. Which would of course have to exclude the emails folder.
