Thanks for the explanation - I will give ASZ a go. If I understand things correctly though it is not possible to access ASZ to copy the image off disk ? To be more secure really requires images to be held off disk and off site.

I think what I might try is a combination of ASZ and ordinary partition. I like the benefits of ASZ that you mention but would not be willing to only have my system images held on the same machine.

Long View, you are absolutely correct. My personal view is that the ASZ is only appropriate in the single-disk environment. If you have a multi-disk environment - particularly if you have an external disk e.g. USB or a spare disk in a rack or caddie, then the ASZ is not appropriate (Xpilot will disagree :) )

The ASZ is really designed to work best with the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (ASRM). And for a Laptop/Single-disk environment this is a "marriage made in heaven" because it provides a level of resilience not normally expected of such an environment.

BUT!! The ASRM makes fundamental changes to the boot sector - not least of which is that Windows Safe Mode is no longer available after you install the ASRM. Windows Safe Mode is a real "get-out-of-jail" card and has made many a technician look like they can walk on water. Personally, I would not like a critical system to be without the option to boot into Safe Mode.

You need to give this a lot of thought.

    :)

    Hi Tabvla

Just noticed your post here. I hadn't been aware of that, so I've just tried it and F8 still gets me in to Safe Mode. :doubt:

Normal boot has the option for ASRM on F11 -so thats active as well.

    Am I misunderstanding you ?

    Hi Tabvla

Version 8 - does this indicate the build number 8.0.0.797 ?

    Hope that helps.

    Probably all three:) :'( :D

It never occurred to me before you're post that it might not work.

Certainly, my mind is boggled :D

I'll leave this to Acronis or somebody else who knows the answer.

    Hello Tabvla,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

We are sorry for the delayed response.

Please let me correct you and Kirill a little bit, as I did in this previous thread. Acronis Startup Recovery Manager, if activated, does not disable F8 for booting into Windows Safe Mode. In order to boot into Windows Safe Mode you should press F8 after the "Press F11 for Acronis Startup Recovery Manager" message appears.

    Thank you.

    Hello Aleksandr

    Thank you for the confirmation.

Because Kirill Omelchenko is an Acronis Support consultant, I simply took his posting as being correct and did not actually test it. :ouch:

Your post is a welcome confirmation of the correct procedure.

    Thanks

    Tabvla

    How true Tabvla,

And I was one of those who then helped spread that bit of (dis)information ...
