Secure wiping insecure?

    Yup.

    And the file names of "previously deleted/erased" files showing back up under software scrutiny is what started this thread.

    So sdelete doesn't totally do one any good for that (which was the point of my previous post). Pete

    The utility Directory Snoop – especially its ability to purge the Master File Table records of deleted files – may be of interest to readers of this thread. This functionality under Windows Vista, however, is limited:

    WinHex, of course, has the same capability (and limitation).

    BTW - For those of you running WinXP Pro - 32-bit, anyway (including the latest service pack), NTREGOPT ( http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/ ) still finds a lot of things to get rid of in the registry, apparently (see screenshot). Pete
