    I've been looking for a secure way to email over the web as I am not always where I can use my ISP. With the laughable "security" of Hotmail and Yahoo, I am interested in the services that offer encryption. Of all the free services available I am looking at Hushmail. They offer OpenGPL encryption. The few others I saw had proprietary encyption routines. My main concern is that Hushmail downloads their encryption engine and install it on my computer. Has anyone used one of these services? Is Hushmail reliable? Input greatly appreciated.

    You can check out Hushmail at https://www.hushmail.com

    Look at Fastmail

    :) Hi Gnostic; I'm unsure as to available encryption, as opposed to your own local encryption, but you should check out fastmail.fm;

    http://www.fastmail.fm/mail/login/

    I just use the free IMAP services, they are 'secure' in the simple way I understand it, you'd have to read the FAQ and check their fora - ums:

    The service is excellent, well designed, super fast and never down as fai know;

    The other one I use which is POP is myrealbox from Novell Networks - sometimes down, but they state up front that it is a test bed for their network system and you take that chance.

    www.myrealbox.com/a?.BQ.EE.Z1QQ.d

    Both are wonderful breaths of fresh air after the craporama of Hotmail and Yahoo-ish...

    Thanks for the input deadmanschest. I'm giving fastmail.fm a tryout. Myrealbox.com is not accepting new members at the moment.

    I am still hoping to hear something about hushmail.com.

    I found another secure web-based email service--Ziplip.com. Unlike Hushmail, they don't d/l anything to your harddrive. I'm going to give them a try and see how good and secure they are.

    Check them out at http://www.ziplip.com.

    Throw away EudoraMail as well

    Hi Gnostic - I forgot to say that I had looked at HushMail and there was 'something about it' that made me hesitate....so glad you found an alternate...

    Quite an exclusive club, we 'myrealbox' members...haha

    One other point - if you want a quick free POP3 service you can also look at eudoramail.com - qualcomm's free webmail ...I also use it for some throw away addys..

    http://login.mail.eudoramail.com/

    Good luck with Ziplip..
