secure and reliable deleting of unused space

Would you recommend me any reliable tool which I could use to securely delete the unused space on HDD?

My experience with secure deleting of unused space is, that "zeroing my HDD and restoring an image" is faster than specialized tools. The difference is too small, but it makes me wonder "Do I need an extra software to do that job ?".
I need my zero tool and image software anyway for doing other stuff.

I've used eraser tp wipe free space and never had a problem. You can do a search of the forum to see if anyone had issues when using that function.

Eraser usually performs this without problems, at least in my experience.
But I would always advise you to have backups of the system before you do such maintenance tasks.

I did a backup and completed the erasing. Everything went smoothly.
