Can't seem to find the option for the above in Acronis 11.

Would someone be kind enough to guide me to the option.

    Thank you in anticipation.

I have the Linux server version. While I also don't have a sector backup option, I have been using the "Ignore all read errors that occur during backup operation" hoping this election is providing me sector-level backups.

A Sector-by Sector check-box appears at the bottom of the screen where you select the drive/partition to be backed up.

    Merry Christmas

Why would one check or not check "sector by sector". In other words, what does it do?

This feature is very useful when you need to backup corrupted disk drives or to make an image of a partition on which an important file has been deleted.

This option lets you copy used and unused hard disk sectors.

Without sector-by-sector, ATI only copies the sectors that are needed to be able to restore -- so it skips unused sectors, thos occupoied by the paging and hibernation files, etc.

Sector-by-sector takes all sectors and doesn't care about bad files that might be using them. Iirc, sector-by-sector is very slow and has some other serious limitations. It's something you would use only if you had a sepcial need, liek trying to backup (and hopefully be able to restore as much as you can of) a disk with known bad files, etc. It's like hand cranking your car engine. If the battery is dead, it's a useful feature but you wouldn't want to use it as a matter of course.

I'm very pleased to hear of these new options. With the addition of user-selectable sector-by-sector imaging, the ability to ignore read errors and of course the new image encryption options, I'd say that ATI has finally become a mature imaging program.
