    folks, come on!

let's do more than just posting background images for your desktop.
otherwise you might as well just link to the original wallpaper.

let's see more OS skinning and themes. :thumb:

Im interested in skin themes too. Could someone share the best method?

Preferably not software that runs as a service, maybe just a custom theme. I remember something about a custom patch is meant to be installed before windows accepts custom themes but not sure. Could someone post instructions or refer me to a good site?

    Regards.

Lol, where are the start menu and taskbars? Updating in 12 days, with both in one screenshot of course.

But moontan, there's no point for me to have a fancy theme. I even see Notepad more often than my own desktop lol. I just need my desktop for a 5 minutes break while drinking coffee. :D

I thought there would be tons of heavily modded OSes. (Specially Windows)

Same here. I don't care what it looks like. Black, white, photo, whatever. But my son likes a fancy desktop.

i always have skinned my OSes, be it Linux or Windows.
this stuff is much easier to do in Linux because it is generally included in most distros.

i spend hours in front of the computers every day.
people spend times and money to decorate their living quarters.
why should it be different with computers?

anyway, beside aesthetic reasons, i find it easier for the eyes to tweak my OS just the way i like.

the default Windows look is way too bright at night or in low light condition.
not to mention that the default Windows look is underwhelming.
especially the new Windows 8 look which is a special kind of ugly. ;)

I've never seen the point of a fancy or flashy desktop. Mine contains the things I'm working on at the time and past projects I haven't cleaned up after. At times, the mess gets so big that you can't see the picture. The only time that I see the desktop itself is when I'm not doing anything. IMO, the desktops job is to give me a place to work where everything I need is in easy reach, 2 clicks or keystrokes away maximum. Now if I could just get better at cleaning it off once in a while.

Well, I never see the Desktop. Even at bootup, I have WinExplorer load (from the Startup directory), open to my working partition.

So I've never put a fancy skin or such thing on the desktop.

Just a guard on duty to keep out the unwanted miscreants:
