SB Alert IE page hijacked when IE is not opened?

    I just got a notice from SpywareGuard indicating that my Home Page had been changed to "none" instead of google.com. I told it to keep google.com.

    My question is can something try to change my IE homepage when IE isn't opened?

    I just ran a scan with Spybot and the computer came up clean.
    What would cause this?
