I'm very sorry if this question has been answered before, and I did a search.

How does one exactly save all pm's ?

Downloading them as text is too boring. As I like to keep all images that come with them.

Someone mentioned before there's a program to dl that saves them just as is...but I think it's too much hassle. :doubt:

So then I got advised to dl as xml. Did that ~ but it seems not working too well.
I saved them to My Documents. When I tried to open, it says something like

    "Windows cannot open........."

Can someone help me with this please?

I'm too sentimental to just hit delete, lol ! :D

So, how to save, with as much resemblence as received ?

Thanks so much in advance for any answers ! :)

    Maybe use Microsoft Word?

Just highlight everything, right-click, copy and paste in Word.

It should also support images ;)

I can't think of anything else right now :doubt:

    Thanks Kye, :)
But the truth is I never ever even layed eyes on it.

Just found out a few months ago about Notepad.
But there..it saves everything in plain text which I don't like.

OK...down below in your mail thingy, it shows those 3 options, right?

One of them - except "text" should be able to save messages with images, etc.
But when I tried to download, it wouldn't open....:doubt:

    Hi there!
You can set the user options to have each PM sent to your email, so you have the text version. The ones with images you want to keep you could select completely copy/paste for instance in a new email you save for yourself, or you open a notepad, save as something.html and paste in that selected PM, save again and you have it complete, or only select the image you want to keep and save that in a place you can find back, many ways.
If you copy and save it in an email or html document you can paste your own answers with that and keep the discussion.

You can save the texts in nice ways with the three options from your screenshot and especially that XML version you can paste in a word doc and change the look back to original nice looking. Quicker then saving all the individual PMs one by one. You could even after making it nice consider to paste yopur images back into that one if it's worth the trouble.

Another option is making a screenshot of it or several.
I always use SnagIt to make screenshots and scrolling window screenshots.
Save as JPG and you're done.

    Hi there Jooske :)

I already do this :D And selecting the ones with images and save as email is fine. (Thats why I need an email account with a humangous amount of storage space...;) ) But I was just hoping those 2 lil other options shown would be a much faster way of saving.

That's ok..I'll just keep doing as before. Not too much of a big deal. :)

    Thanks again !!

What a pity. It's great to be able to save quickly. But not for me without image support. ;)

It's simple Nat and you don't need your cam for it. :D
It's only software, screen capture apps, installed on your computer.
See my screenshot. Resized it a bit, not to blow the borders. ;)

Never mind ~ I'll be an old granny..and saving one by one..with gentle care and love.............. ;)

If you want to save with all the pictures wtc then the easiest way is first make a new folder on your computer call it let's say private messages

then go the pm you want to save and assuming IE is used click on file/save as choose html page complete and give it a name NOT the php it will automatically put in as all messges will have the same private.php name

press save & it will save it

do that foe all the pm'syou want to save and when you click on the htm file on yopur computer teh pm will open up exactly as if it was here on the forum including all pictures and links

Similar to dvk01's suggestion....via IE's tool menu select File\Save As and select Web Archive, single file (*.mht)....which you can then view off-line if the need ever arises.

dvk & Bubba !! This is very neat !! http://members.shaw.ca/wenpigs/happy/coolthumb.gif

A bit different...and will have to play with it still for a lil while.
At first, it made 2 funny folders in the one folder I created.

NOW...one more question if you don't mind. But I think I know the answer already.

Let's say something happened to my PC (god forbid !) ~ and since it's all stored on the puter..I will loose all those saved pm's too...Right ?? :doubt:

Well..you've got to delete them sooner or later. That's the point. (~Laughing~)

Saving them PM's because you can only have 50 messages. Then inbox is full. :) ;)

    That's the fate of a moderator. :D
Burning it to a CD-ROM or CD-RW (rewritable) can help you store the PM's. :)

Thanks for the suggesting Eric. But saving pics and other important things I already usually save to CD.

I think it's just much easier to get off of my tush and save my pm's more often - to my wonderful big G-mail account. :p
I think this is the easiest solution.
And besides...they are increasing their storage more and more (sometimes I wonder what their up to though, and where they get all the resources from..but oh well...)

They can increase till the earth busts, I don't care. :D
