    Going proprietary ... interesting!

IOTs are another target. I guess these guys have to diversify or end up like some of their predecessors that bit the dust because the new kid on the block came up with something more exciting or better. Buying an existing company seems to be the alternative to innovation.

Tizen isn't proprietary, it's more open than Android is.

Will Tizen be available to (and run on) other smartphones. If so, what other smartphone manufacturer would put this OS on their phone and why?

Considering Google tries to nail down OEMs with restrictions if they wish to have access to Google play, it's likely only the companies as large as Samsung that would have the balls to even try.

But really, the same question could be asked about SailfishOS, Ubuntu Touch & FirefoxOS. Still, I'd rather see them all thrive and succeed, even if minor.

For how long? Samsung doesn't have a stellar record for open source.
More than likely it will remain open until it stays beneficial to Samsung and then when competition starts rising they will just close the claws just like Google.

Are you joking? Samsung is very frequently contributing to open source. They were 9th on the list of Linux kernel contributors last year, higher than Google.

Saying a company would only continue doing something that's beneficial to them is an odd statement. Do you expect them to do otherwise or something?
