Do you run your Home PC 24/7 round the clock? I'll give my opinion first. Yes. I reboot but otherwise I hate to wait.

    Thanks for your votes. :)

I do run them from when I get up, until when I go to bed, because they are in use. I just don't see any point in leaving them on when I am asleep.

I understand. I let mine get it's AV updates and Windows updates but install when I am there. I can also set things to run while asleep like updates and scans, but I always babysit a windows update. Thanks.

USA still the best. But barely.
No I believe it's less stress on the hardware. Why burn the life cycle when I don't need it?

I have owned two computer shops before I retired and in my experience I see no advantage in letting a computer run 24/7. actually it is better to turn them off since when they reboot is when they do the most of their internal house keeping and rearranging of files.

I have read numerous debate on the subject of whether it is better or worse for a computer to let it run or continuously shutdown and restart, can't honestly say I have been convinced by either arguement but I prefer to let mine run.

    No , I don't .

Not only it is a waste of energy , but it is no point . I let my computers relax when I sleep :)

I don´t see why I need to keep my PC turned on when I´m not using it. I always put it in standby mode, just like I do with any other electric appliance. I mean is your TV also turned on 24/7? o_O

    Hello,
Running since 2001 without a stop, downloading the Internet.
Some computers have been on for more than a year. I only recently powered down one to install UPS.

I turn my computer OFF, if I don't need it anymore. I don't see any benefit to leave it ON.

My machine(s) run 24/7. If they're not BackingUp, they're running a scan or D/Ling something. My wifes machine gets turned off since it's hardy used.

I've become very frugal, so I turn off the computer at night, and when leaving home.

Ditto to the above, also when I'm not actually 'using' it.

2 of 4 of my PCs run nonstop ... Downloads/FTP Server etc.. Like Mrk; both PCs have gone a long time without reboots.

All the 'home/family' machines are turned off when not in use. The other network/work has some productive stuff going on all the time and they are only powered down for maintenance.

Mine runs 24/7, but not always the same OS. Mine runs scheduled tasks and larger downloads at night. The monitor shuts down after 15 minutes of inactivity.

I've read that most component wear occurrs at startup and shutdown. It holds true for vehicle engines and industrial equipment. While I can't prove or disprove this when it comes to PCs, mine has been running 24/7 with only occasional reboots for changes or for switching operating systems for the last 3 years. There's been no failures of any of the OEM hardware, which is about 8 years old now.

Besides, I like having it ready to go whenever I want to use it, which can be at any odd hour.
