Canonical, the company backing Ubuntu, announced that there would be a new Ubuntu Core distribution with the release of Ubuntu 11.11: Oneiric Ocelot. This distribution is meant to be a minimal installation that includes the APT package system, allowing developers to use packages from the massive Ubuntu repository. The target audience is developers who want to run Linux on embedded devices, such as set-top boxes or in-vehicle infotainment systems. Since its launch is expected in October, and I want to use Core for in-vehicle development in EcoCAR 2, I decided to start trying to get the nightly builds running in QEmu.
