    What firewall are you using?

Basically, you need to allow outbound TCP for NOD32KRN.EXE via port 80.

You may want to limit your inbound TCP ports from 1024-5000.

That is how I have mine setup and I have no problems. ;)

For which firewall and what are the prompts for?
As Jaguar noted the live update should only require outbound TCP for HTTP (80). If you were going to restrict this to specific IP's, you would need to develop a list of these IP's.

I am using outpost pro. shall i use the browser setting it offers? If i use the abobe rules, do i do them in that order and then stick two rules at the end to disallow any other inbound tcp or outbound tcp?

    thanks for the help,

    James.

The default browser rule would probably be a good starting point. Just remove what is not required. As noted above, the rule would only need outbound TCP to remote service/port 80. Or you can always create your own rule from scratch.

ok i thinks its all sorted now with the following rules:

allow tcp outbound on remote port 80
allow tcp inbound on local ports 1024-5000
    block outbound tcp
    block inbound tcp

    thanks all,

    J.
