    Hi All:

Thought you all might be interested in this. Yesterday Suzi at SpywareWarrior updated my Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites page:

    http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

This is a major update. In addition to the main page, there's a companion page as well:

    Anti-Spyware Family Resemblances
    http://www.spywarewarrior.com/family_resemblances.htm

Comments, corrections, and suggestions are, as always, most welcome.

    Best,

    Eric L. Howes

Another salute from here. Great job in exposing the ever increasing ripoffs and deceptive proggies!
(would love to see similar comparsions of other types of apps)

Some info to add to this:

I checked the registrars of the rogue/suspect products who host their sites. Some of them in particular tolerate this type of abuse like godaddy.com, networksolutions.com. The later also tolerates spam sites like emailtoday2004.com although they have plenty of legit clients. Just wondering why and if they know... then again they should as they were informed on a number of occassions.

We will better off if these guys enforce few basic rules against spam and copyright infringement to their clients.

very good info in your links thanks.

attempt to install spyware was made when i attempted to download the software from MAJOR GEEKS.COM
I wanted to inform the manufacturers of the spyblocking software that people might end up with spyware when attempting to download programs to prevent spyware.

Thats a great reference tool for pass along knowledge and I guess an eye opener as far as Google ads go that are on my site. I have suspected that some of the products in the google ads were a little less than desired so I think its time to start a little tracking session and see exactly whats being adverised..
    Tanks again.

Just to follow up on my previous post I had to only check out one google ad banner. It contained four products. All are on the above list ( spyware begone, Spyware snooper, SpyFerret and spy Doctor)
I know that google wouldn't really be concerned with the type of business those companies conduct buy I do and it looks like google add are getting the boot..

Great list, and I'm sure it will have to be constantly updated. Thanks a lot to the people who've been involved. I usually hang around the security forums and newsgroups and usually don't get burned on adaware/spyware programs, but it's very easy for less knowledgeable people (such as the rest of my family members) to get suckered in.

My kids usually ask questions whenever they see something strange though. ;)

    Good job on the list...
I think you should re-consider the Maixion Products as having false positives as goal to purchase... Maxion in quite reputable.

Max Net Shield and Spy Killer, may not have have the greatest scanning technology or databases, however, they do no seem to be selling rips-off, imitations or having simply quick profits in mind. I could be wrong... who knows

Sure it worked, but giving false positives, which at that time I didn't know, so I removed it. :doubt:
And don't forget I paid $50 for it.
Better stick to the trusted ones as mentionned on Eric's website. ;)
