An update will be out soon but you won't be seeing it a few weeks from now. Alyac is one of those that does not follow a fast/constant release cycle.

yes but a Win8 100% compatibility version is needed, at the moment it works well but it can't show messages in the metro start so is not perfect for Win8 users that like the metro gui and don't skip to desktop

I am using windows 8 and could care less about the crappy metro stuff. Roboscan works great with 8 and I love it, plus its free.

Kinda funny how it works really well with Win8 (64-bit version for me) without any crashes or BSODs, and their product page still says it is only compatible with Windows 2000 - 7. Last time I installed AVG 2013 (with Win-8 compatibility) I got a BSOD right after opening a word document.

BTW looks like the Roboscan edition we're being offered is an English counterpart of ALYac's enterprise edition (judging from the similar GUI). If that's the case then you can get a peek at how Roboscan 3.0 would look like at:

I would like to know is it ok to couple Roboscan + Kingsoft? Will there be any problems?

    Is Roboscan firewall good?

Check out the review here. Apparently the firewall is crap. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2408555,00.asp

Not in my case. I have never used it so how could I hate it although I'm sometimes on the look out for free products for friends? Someone asked about the firewall and I remembered a review I saw. End of storey. I'm sure users can counter the review if there's anything to counter.

It seems you are only recognizing the presence of the BD engine. If you had read the article, it explains that the detection was exactly the same but the removal portion was not so excellent.

With Roboscan, ESTsoft's own in-house engine is the main one while BD is the backup. Over time it will improve, I'm sure.

What the article said was that comparing BD and Roboscan, both caught things that the other missed, but the numbers for detection ended up the same. Thus it clearly says that the detection rates are different but equivalent, i.e. the BD engine in Roboscan doesn't detect the same things as BitDefender itself.

This might be due to a different cloud in use, but I am not aware if BitDefender and Roboscan use cloud queries.

I mentioned they were equivalent, sort of. Close enough, right? haha :D

Roboscan doesn't have cloud but BD does.

Roboscan uses two scan engines, BD + their own ALYac Tera engine.

    I am aware of that.

Well that might make the difference, but it still doesn't explain why other BD engine products like BullGuard and eScan still have (almost) the same detection rate as BD itself while Roboscan's BD engine lags behind slightly. I do believe eScan uses a cloud query within the BD engine.

On one of my laptops Roboscan was using up to 48% CPU use when Vista SP1 was being downloaded from Windows Update.

Sadly, it might be time to ditch Roboscan. I have no time at all for antiviruses with CPU use.

a client i have who was using it 2 days ago was infected with a nasty mbr infection and she is 83 years old and all she does is check her mail from her kids and read the news her son installed this for her. i cleaned it all up and she has switched and removed it now. i like it overall but im mot sure personally it offers the same protection as others. i plan on further testing and will submit the sample to them.
